The Original
- Journey Into Imagination was the original name when the attraction debuted on March 5, 1983.
- The attraction featured not only Figment, but Dreamfinder and the song “One Little Spark” as well.
- Figment is described as, “Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow. Horns of a steer – but a loveable fellow. From head to tail, he’s royal purple pigment and there, voila, you’ve got Figment – a Figment of imagination!”.
- When the attraction first opened, guests were transported through the Dreamport to inspire new ideas with Dreamfinder & Figment.
- Until 1998, guests could find Dreamfinder and his puppet, Figment, in Future World for meet & greets.
- The building that hosted this attraction was originally named, the Kodak Pavilion, as Kodak was the original sponsor until 2010.
A Second Version
- In 1999, a second version of Figment debuted, name Journey into Your Imagination.
- Guests were not happy with this version, due to the lack of Figment’s presence throughout the ride.
- Dreamfinder was no longer part of the attraction.
- Never before had complaints of an attraction at Disney World been so profound that less than 2 years after opening this version closed in 2001.
As We Know It Today
- In 2002, Journey Into Imagination with Figment opened once again, the version guests can still visit today. Dreamfinder was never revived for the current version, however this version does follow the original theming more so than the previous one.
- The building is now known as the Imagination Pavilion.
- Guests can now explore their 5 senses, with Figment leading guests throughout their journey into imagination at Dr. Channing’s sensory labs.
- After the attraction, guests discover the ImageWorks – The “What If” Labs, an interactive play area based on the senses.
- Also today guests can visit ImageWorks for Figment themed merchandise from plush, to apparel and more.
