This is a guest post courtesy of my friend Amy at Who Said Nothing In Life Is Free. She posts her words of wisdom every Wednesday.

Personally I enjoy shopping at CVS because they have less “rules” when it comes to using coupons and Extra Care Bucks.

What is an Extra Care Buck (ECB)? It is a coupon that will print at the bottom of your receipt after you make a purchase of an item that has an attached Extra Care Buck deal with it. You will be able to use this coupon on almost any purchase in the store (with some exclusions like gift cards, alcohol, cigarettes, phone cards, stamps, etc).

What is a CRT? CRT means cash register tape. It is a store coupon that will print either at the bottom of your receipt after you buy something or it will print from the price scanner when you scan your Extra Care Card. Since these are store coupons, they can be combined with manuf coupons. CRT coupons will state a particular product like “$1 off any haircare item” or “$2 off Glade Lasting Impressions”.

How will I know if an item should print an Extra Care Buck? There are weekly Extra Care Buck deals and monthly Extra Care Bucks deals. The weekly deals are advertised in the store ad and the monthly deals SHOULD have shelf tags throughout the store. However, many stores do not put the tags up so you will want to check either my site or forums like weusecoupons to find a list of monthly deals.

Can I use a manuf coupon on an item and still get the Extra Care Buck to print? Yes, the coupon should not affect whether the Extra Care Buck prints or not.

Can I use an Extra Care Buck to pay for an item that will print an Extra Care Buck? Yes as long as the limit is more than one, you can “roll” the one Extra Care Buck into the next item. For example, if the limit is 2 on a deal and you buy 1 shampoo for $4 and get a $4 Extra Care Buck, you can buy the second shampoo and use the $4 Extra Care Buck to pay and get another $4 ECB to print (this is different than Walgreen’s).

Can I use an Extra Care Buck for $3 to pay for a $2.99 item? Yes, the Extra Care Buck says “up to $3″ which means it can be adjusted down to the amount of the subtotal (this is different than Walgreen’s). It can not cover your tax.

Can I buy one item and use a manuf coupon and an Extra Care Buck to pay for it? Yes, you can use a manuf coupon and as many Extra Care Bucks as you want to pay for an item (this is different than Walgreen’s)

Will CVS accept expired Extra Care Bucks? This varies from store to store. Some stores will take them no matter how expired they are, some say one week, some say 24 hours and some say none at all.

I am certainly not an app expert, but I do know couponers and the one thing couponers have a lot of (besides money of course) is store cards on their key rings! I love these tiny little loyalty cards, but mine are completely out of control. At last count, I had twelve! I found myself trying to decide what I could live without. Now I don’t have to choose!

I discovered a great new app today called Key Ring by Froogloid! It stores all your store cards on your phone! Just scan the store card with your bar code scanner and name it. Then when you need your store card, bring it up on your phone and the retailer can scan your phone! I did a test run today at Godiva and it worked great! I am in the process of scanning in all my cards now!

If you would like to read more about Froogloid’s Key Ring, go here. The app I am using is for Droid, but I’m sure there is one out there for iPhone too!

If you give it a try, I’d love to know what you think.

Update: Oh yes, it is FREE too!

The Prudent Patron shows you how to shop smarter with store sales, coupons, freebies and more! I am dedicated to helping you spend less, so that you can save more!

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining out bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

Welcome to No Dining May! Everyday I will post a discussion for us to comment on our progress, vent our frustrating, share recipes for eating at home, etc. You can share anything you want on this thread if it helps you keep your dining budget in check!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get a $50 gift card to the restaurant of their choice!

Here are the rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habbits, you can participate!

2. You must comment on at least 10 of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.

3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.

4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!

5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!

6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or save it for a goal you are working towards (like a trip to Disney World!).

7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

I’m at Disney today! So we are dining out a lot. :) But I am still giving one of my lucky readers $50 for their favorite restaurant so please comment.

How did you do?

One way I am able to save money at the grocery store is by making my own bread.  From sandwich bread to dinner rolls to pizza crusts, I make it all!  Many people believe that while homemade bread is probably one of the most delicious and aromatic things in the world, it is simply too difficult to make and way too time consuming.  I used to believe this too!

I learned about the “no-knead” bread phenomenon from a magazine and then promptly bought the recommended cookbook and haven’t looked back since!  Here are the advantages of making your own bread, specifically by using the “no-knead” process:

  • No extra additives in your bread (no preservatives or other unknown ingredients).
  • Saves you money!
  • You can easily make your own organic bread using all organic ingredients if you desire.  Organic bread is hard to find and is incredibly expensive.
  • You can make one large batch of dough and bake what you need, when you need it.  The rest of the dough stays stored in the fridge!
  • Versatility!  One batch of dough can make a sandwich loaf one day, a pizza crust the next, and even cinnamon rolls for breakfast!
  • Saves you time (versus a traditional bread recipe requiring multiple steps of kneading & rising).

If you are interested in learning more, be sure to read more here.

Greta blogs over at Friend, Family Savings. She blogs to to help others learn how to use coupons effectively.  The less you have to spend on everyday needs, the more you can save for the future!

My husband is from California so we go yearly to see his family and since they live so close to Disneyland, our sweet little girls think it is “normal” that we go every time we visit. It is always a special treat and we discover new and fun tips every time we go.

Single Rider

While the fast pass is a great way to save time and plan your day we discovered THE BEST “SECRET” which is faster than a fast pass. What is it? Single rider pass! This is only available for Indian Jones and Splash Mountain. You simply walk up (don’t stand in line) and ask for a single rider pass. They hand it to you and you get to walk through the back of the ride and they put you on the ride when they need a single rider, which is very often. My husband and I did this several times and we just enjoyed getting to instantly ride on these rides which usually have a 1 hour wait. Although were in different cars, we ended up getting off the ride at the same time.

Watch your Receipts

We typically take a picnic lunch and try not to buy too much food at the park, however I do splurge on having a cup of coffee etc. We noticed that at the end of our receipt, they frequently offer discounts for certain stores at certain times, like save 25% on purchases between 2p.m.and 5 p.m. You never know what might print out and the times were very precise, so watch those receipts.

Free Commemorative Buttons

Go to City Hall on Main Street near the entrance and tell them it is your first visit and they give you a free button that says “First visit.” They also have complimentary buttons available with “My Birthday” and “I’m celebrating” and others may be available. As you walk through the park you will be greeted by employees and asked how your first visit is going etc.

Wake Jose at the Tiki Room

If you arrive a few minutes before the beginning of the Tiki Room, you can ask the host if your child can wake Jose to begin the show. Your child will be part of the show and given the opportunity to wake up the birds. This is always cute and fun.

I met up with 6 of my amazing readers this morning at Downtown Disney. We had the best time and enjoyed chatting and hanging out! I wish we could of spent the whole day together! (And Angela and Missy, I meant to get my picture with both of you but my mind was so scattered!)

Then I went to the Nickelodeon hotel and hung out with Amy from Who Said Nothing in Life is Free. She is an Orlando blogger and a great friend! We had a really great time hanging out and swimming even though it rained on our parade. The Nick Hotel is really neat and about 5 minutes from Disney.

And then tonight on my way out of the Pop food court, I ran into another reader! How neat is that??? So that’s a total of 8 amazing readers I have met this trip. :D I hope I made a good impression. ;)

It rained most of the afternoon and evening. I’m so glad we were taking off from the parks today!
