Guest Post: The Magical Mouse School House

in Posts

A Disney education experience is only a click away at the MAGICAL MOUSE SCHOOLHOUSE, a unique new blog that plusses the homeschool experience and prompts home educators to think outside the textbook. Bi-weekly posts incorporate teachable moments found in Walt Disney entertainment and leave readers with creative applications and suggested lesson plans for kids preschool through high school.

Covering a wide variety of categories—from the history of Walter Elias Disney to the magic behind animation techniques—the MAGICAL MOUSE SCHOOLHOUSE blog provides appealing and engaging teaching tools. For instance, watch Dumbo and learn about aviation. Build a paper airplane with an elephant’s proportions. Discuss fuselage size and shape. Ask students if large wings (or ears) help or hinder flight. Read Swiss Family Robinson and watch the Disney film version. Compare and contrast the movie with the book. If possible, visit the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and take a virtual walk into the movie.

Non-homeschooling parents can employ takeaways to supplement their children’s schoolwork or to keep their kids from stagnating during summer break or other time off from class.

Classroom teachers can also utilize the blog to enhance their lesson plans and offer additional course work.

We encourage you to stretch the boundaries of your home classroom and embrace the teachable moments that take the guise of Disney movies, Disney theme parks, Disney story books, Disney art, and more!

You can learn while you play when you discover that Disney IS school!

MAGICAL MOUSE SCHOOLHOUSE hosts every Wednesday of July and August.

How fun! I have a 3 year old who loves all things Disney. Not just the basics either. I’m talking imagineering, concept art, etc. I’m starting pre-school at home with him this year and we’ll be using this! :)
