in Posts

Build A Bear is running a sweet sale from July 23rd to August 5th. You can get ANY make-your-own Animal PLUS any outfit PLUS any shoes for just $29.99! This is a really great deal since some of the animals start at $22 a piece!

They also carry Disney character clothes! We have Snow White for my daughter’s bear and my son has his eye on the Woody costume. These outfits are $15 a piece, so if you get those with the coupon, it’s a GREAT deal!

We recently went to Build A Bear with my daughter’s second bear that she had given to Jacob. They opened the bear and let Jacob go through the whole heart ceremony. It was so special and wonderful of them to do that for him!

You can get even more details on this offer here.

I have to say we had a great experience there too. My daughter’s bear is her favorite toy so she brought it to the hospital when she had outpatient surgery. They put a label on the bear with her name on it and the adhesive would not come off the fur. It was pretty much ruined. I didn’t want to bathe it in adhesive remover. Yuck! So I went to the store and asked if they could “secretly” swap it out and I’d pay for it. I told my daughter the bear would go to the bear hospital at the store. They swapped it out for free. That keeps me going back there for more outfits and accessories.

I hear the lady that started the company is absolutely amazing. Did you know there is a Build a Dino at Disney World?

I can tell you that Maxine is such a neat person! I met her at Disney Social Media Moms, and she is so “real”. Not stuck up, or rude! She is a people person and gives you the feeling that she genuinely cares about people. That is why I love Build A Bear!

Don’t get me wrong, Build a Bears are adoreable but $30 for a teddy bear is still a little extreme to me. My daughter made one for my son when he was born and it quickly became his favorite toy. To make a long story short, it wound up dirty and tattered in a very short time. Like I said before though, they are very cute and I love walking through the store but I just can’t fork out that kind of money for a stuffed animal. Maybe I am just a lame mom….

Oh no! That’s awful about the bear. :(

We get the $10 bear. Both of their bears have held up very well. Maybe you got a bad bear??

Yeah we get the $10 bears and the ones we have are 11 or 12 years old and they have held up nicely. If they become unstictched you can bring them back to the store and they will stich it up for you. I do agree that they can be very costly. We don’t do them much anymore becuase the boys are older, but every once in awhile I get a special one just for me. I bought a purple one that when you bought it a donation went to autism. When they boys were into them if they wanted extra stuff for them they had to use thier birthday or christmas money to get stuff.

Trust me, you’re not a lame mom…I won’t spend $30 on a Teddy Bear either. When my son was younger we went on vacation to Myrtle Beach and they had a build a bear so we let him build one (they were $20 then). He played with it for about 2 months then it ended up in his toy box with the rest of his stuffed animals and that is where it remains today. Never again.

Admittedly, when I first heard of Build-a-Bear when my daughter was young I thought “Great, another expensive way for them to get kids hooked on a certain toy!” But now, I’m a huge fan. My daughter has her one original bear (actually a hot pink monkey) that she got on her first birthday. Every holiday, birthday following we’ve always brought her Monkey in to Build-A-Bear where the monkey get a ‘day pass’ and then we let her play in the store and pick out new clothes, accessories or whatever it may be.

It is so easy to accumulate TONS of stuffed animals and this has helped curb that problem. She has her one bear that she can play with over and over. I plan to bring my son to Build-A-Bear on his first birthday and let him do the same.

I have spent sooo much money in that store!!! My boys LOVED it when they were little. One even had a birthday party there (which wasn’t too badly priced for all they did and got) We did the build a bear when we were at Disneyland and got some cute disney outfits for them. Since Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie I have Beauty and the beast costumes on a bear that was given to me when my granpa died when i was 11, and then on my build a bear cow that the boys made for me one birthday. When our youngest was born the three older kids went and made him a turtle and they let all 3 put hearts in there and make wishes. All of our animals have held up nicely to all the play they got. Not sure if they still give you the story about if you loose it they can open it up and find out where it belongs becuase when you register it they can track it down to you. If they do come apart at the seems you can bring them in and they will fix it too. I think they are well worth the money and we have been buying them since my oldest (now almost 12) was a baby. We got our nearly 2 hours from home when they first came out whe we would go on our yearly Christmas shopping trip to the city.

We are traveling in a couple of weeks and will be near a BABW. DD has a $5 off coupon so we might end up doing that deal. Thanks for the heads up!

You have to pick from a set up package on these. You cant pick just what you want. Kinda a bummer.

Another note to add to this discussion. You might check Ebay and Craigslist for people selling their Build-A-Bears. Often times they are in new or like new condition. You can buy bears and/or accessories. So you could do that ahead of time and then take the kids to Build-A-Bear with their new bear (the one you bought online) do the whole dress up thing at the store and just buy a few accessories while you’re there!
