I’ve been keeping my eye on our local Groupons. I’ve recently gotten introduced to them and wanted to see if they ever had any deals that appealed to me. Groupons are local coupons that are only available for a certain number of hours. You go ahead and pay the discounted price you get with the coupon and you are able to print it at home. You then take the paper and redeem it at the establishment.
Today’s Groupon in the Birmingham area was finally one that I am VERY interested in. You can get $30 worth of food at Dale’s Southern Grill for $15. Dale’s is one of my husband’s favorite restaurants so I jumped at this deal.(And it’s available all weekend if you are interested!)
Have you ever purchased a Groupon and redeemed it? What was your experience?

I love Groupon! We have redeemed one for $5 for $10 worth of Cold Stone Creamery. I also bought one months ago that was $40 for $100 worth of services at an upscale salon — so I’m getting highlights tomorrow! I also purchased two $20 for $75 worth of housecleaning, which I will be using next month! I think you will really enjoy Groupon! I love the variety!
In my area we have half price deals – different radio / tv stations sponsor them. You can get a $50 gift certificate to restaurants, speciality stores, etc for $25. We have done this many times
My husband used 5 Groupons that I bought a couple months ago today to take our kids to BounceU. I paid $4 apiece, it’s normally $8 to get in. I love Groupon!!
Groupon is great! My family went to Vegas in June and my daughter and I bought a groupon for getting our hair cut plus super conditioning (a $95 service) for $25 each. We also got rollercoster groupons for $10 each to ride as many times as we wanted. My most recent buy was for facials for me and my other daughter ($95-$125 treatment) for $30 each.
YUP sure have. Quite a few times really! They are great and just as easy as a coupon. :) Love them!
I loooooove Groupon. I have purchased three different ones. One for a tea party, one for an organic pizzeria, and one for a Chiropractor(which just happened to be one that my friend was bragging about and I was planning to try anyways). I wanted the one from yesterday. It was an organic italian restaurant. But, it was 30 miles away and I decided to wait. It is simple and easy and not time consuming. Just takes 10 seconds to glance at the email and see if you are interested. It is great for businesses as well.
I’ve purchased two Groupons in the past month for our trips to Birmingham. One is a mani/pedi for over half off. I posted the link on Facebook and someone purchased the same thing, so Groupon gave me a $10 credit. The next week I purchased two Whataburger Groupons for $10 off food. I used my credit so we will be getting free food!
I am disappointed – I live almost 2 hours from the nearest large city, so Groupon is not really for me. Sounds like y’all are getting some great deals.
I was just about the come comment asking you to let us know how your experience with Groupon went because I get the emails but haven’t seen a deal I’m interested in yet. And then I see all these wonderful comments about them. Thanks!!! Now I’ll feel really good about getting one if I run across a deal I like.
But what happens if not enough people get the groupon for it to take effect? Anyone have experience with that?
If not enough people purchase the Groupon they refund your account that day.
I purchased one for half off a 10 visit card to a local indoor playcenter. I haven’t redeemed it yet since I planned on taking my daughter after school, which starts on August 16th here.
Like Martha, I live two hours from the nearest city with Groupons, but I’ve bought two of them. My husband travels around for work, so I bought one for a restaurant for his lunch one day. I also bought one for a children’s museum my kids like to visit occasionally. I had a $10 credit for a referral, so I only paid $10 for five passes that I would have paid over $40 for! I’ve also been checking out the Groupons for other areas for when I go on vacation. :)
I’ve checked Groupon once in a while, but I’ve found that the deal is always for some place no where near where I live. (I live in Houston, which is such a huge area.) But I just checked them again, and they have a great deal for Double Dave’s pizza available today, and while the location nearest us is not included, another one that’s in an area we go to once in a while is. And I see that a local restaurant just a few minutes away that I love had a 50% off deal about a month ago! And I missed it! I think I will sign up for their e-mails from now on. Thanks for reminding me about this site!
