Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!
At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!
How can this help you “Coupon to Disney?”
- Take a look at your current dining out budget. How much did you spend last month going out to eat? That is money that could of gone into your fund instead! Try cutting your out to eat costs this month and adding the difference to your fund.
- Set a weekly dining out budget, if you resist going out to eat, add that amount to your fund instead.
- If you were seriously about to go out to eat (like had your coat on and was going out the door or pulled into the drive thru and then pulled back out), add the amount you would of spent to your fund.
- Going out to eat and using a coupon or paying with a gift card? You could add that amount to your fund too. For example… if you had a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel and you used it, you could take $25 cash out of your budget and add it to the fund. Or if you used a $10 coupon, you could take $10 cash out of the budget and add it to the fund.
- Be sure to read my Couponing to Disney training series.
The rules:
- You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
- You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the cash.
- The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
- You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
- Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
- Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.
My update:
I did not go out to eat yesterday. I wanted to, I really wanted to, but I was not about to lose 10 points in the weight loss game I am playing with my friend. My husband, on the other hand, went out to Zaxby’s and got a salad and tea. He spent $8.50. He has lost 9 pounds in a week! (Men!!)
How are you doing?

I am going to be honest. Being overweight and vacationing at Disney is not always easy. On the last trip my feet hurt so bad that I would cry over the pain. If I had been 50 – 75 pounds lighter, if I had walked more at home, it would of been easier. The average person walks 8-10 miles at Disney. That is a LOT of walking especially when you aren’t physically used to it.
So, it’s time to change all that. And I can’t do it alone. I need the help of my AMAZING Couponing to Disney readers. It doesn’t matter if you have 5 pounds or 50 pounds or 100 plus pounds to lose. Everyone is welcome to post on this thread. At the end of each month, I will pick one awesome reader who commented on at least 10 posts to win $50 via Paypal to add to their fund!
My progress:
Yesterday, I met with a trainer so that I could learn how to use the machines at the gym. If we are going to pay to go to the gym, I figured we might as well take a couple classes to make sure that we are doing everything correctly. My trainer was so nice, obsessed with Disney, and his sister is a couponer. How neat is that? And those machines were brutal and I can barely lift my arms this morning!
The diet is going great. I am trying to not eat a lot of ‘empty calories’ and mainly eat fruits, veggies, whole grains and proteins. I am allowing myself one 100 calorie dessert a day. I really like the mini Hostess cupcakes. I am 5 days sober from Diet Coke. And for the past 3 days, I have drank 96 oz of water a day. Yay!
How are you doing?
Walt Disney designed this land after the city he grew up in, Marceline, Missouri. He wanted a way for guests to step back in time- either to their childhood or their grandparents’ childhood.
Walt Disney said, “For those of us who remember the carefree time it recreates, Main Street will bring back happy memories. For younger visitors, it is an adventure in turning back the calendar to the days of their grandfather’s youth.”

Main St. U.S.A. starts with a Railroad station overhead as you enter the gates, as all Disneyland parks do, except Tokyo Disneyland. Once through, you have City Hall- which is the Guest Relations center on your right and the Fire station on your left. The fire station is where Walt Disney built an apartment for himself to keep a closer eye on the park. Then the street narrows with different shops and restaurants- you may notice names in the windows of these buildings, this is how credit was given to many of the creators of Disneyland were given tribute. Lastly, it opens up at the other end with the hub and Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Sam’s Club, Costco, BJ’s, etc are what we call big box stores. These are stores that require you to be a member to shop there. The membership runs anywhere from $30-$100 or more depending on which store you choose to shop at.
These stores sells groceries, household goods, and miscellaneous items in bulk and advertise that their prices are lower because of the volume you get. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The most important thing you can do is approach these prices as a couponer. Sometimes buying the smaller size on sale with a coupon at your local grocery store is going to be cheaper.
I personally have a Sam’s Club membership and I have no intention of canceling it. I love shopping at Sam’s and I go at least twice a month if not more often. Here are the things I buy on a regular basis:
- Milk
- Milo’s Tea
- Eggs
- Salad
- Some produce
- Meat (chicken is a great price here)
- bread
- chips
- some frozen foods
- thins in the middle area (clothes, toys, household goods, etc. I love browsing the middle area at Sam’s. You never know what you are going to find!)
Some things at Sam’s Club are a great deal and a lot cheaper than what you would pay for it at other stores. Milo’s Tea, for example, is $2.88 at Walmart and only $2.24 at Sam’s Club. Boneless chicken is $1.98 a pound and that is a good price if you need it (the cheapest I have seen in my area is $1.48 a pound).
I used to think that I needed to spend at least $80 every 2 weeks at Sam’s Club and there was no way to lower that amount. And then started couponing. After couponing for a couple months, you will get to know what is a great deal at your local big box store and what isn’t.
If you do not have a membership right now, I recommend you wait a few months. The more you coupon, the better you will get about knowing what a great price is. Then when you are ready, visit your local store and ask if they will let you browse for a bit. See if you find anything that is less than what you got it for on sale and with a coupon. If it is, get a membership. If it isn’t, put that money in your fund!
Do you have a membership to a big box store? If so, what do you buy?

Saving money….. now there’s a topic we all love. Most of you are reading my blog because you want to save more money. We save at the grocery store, we save at the drug store, but there are lots of ways we could be saving and stretching our dollar and Couponing to Disney……
If you get an electronic device wet (like a phone, camera or iPod), take the battery and back off of it and insert all the pieces in a bowl of rice. Make sure you cover the device completely. The rice will pull the moisture out of the device and you might just get lucky and it will still work!
Just make sure you leave it in the rice anywhere from 1-7 days. Don’t try turning it on until you feel comfortable that it is completely dried out. Good luck!
