How to help tornado victims in Alabama via an online donation drive (update)

in Posts

The Birmingham News/Carol Robinson

Update: I have had over 60 people who have committed to sending a box of items. I am so thankful to you all! Please continue to inform all your friends and family about this way to donate to the tornado victims!

Amazon: You can ship items directly to the church via Amazon. A few people have ordered cases of diapers, wipes and even food. Anything that you want to send would be appreciated!

Share it: Please feel free to share this information via your blog, email, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. The more people that know of this option, the better!

Used items: We will gladly accept used clothing, shoes, and household items. Please use your own judgment on if they are in good shape or not.

Wednesday my town was hit by a tornado. We suffered loss of homes, businesses, vehicles, etc. Praise the Lord we did not suffer many losses of life. Unfortunately, it wasn’t over. Later in the day, more tornadoes touched the ground in Alabama killing at least 194 people. This line of storms spanning 7 states took a total of 298 lives and more than 163 tornadoes reportedly ransacked the south.

Southerners are in dire need of some of the most basic necessities and I am working with my local church to start an online donation drive to help the victims of these storms. If you have any items that you would love to mail to us, we will gladly take them. Here are a few things that we are in need of:

toothpaste
toothbrushes
shampoo
conditioner
soap
deodorant
dishwashing soap
laundry detergent
hand sanitizer
clothing in all sizes
shoes in all sizes
blankets
small toys for displaced children
ziploc bags
bandaids and other first aid products
femine products
baby formula
diapers
baby food
toilet paper
Kleenex
food
individual juices
pet food and treats
etc

We will gladly take anything that you are willing to send.

You can mail your donations to my church. We will ensure they get into the right hands. You have my personal guarantee that all donations will be distributed:

Disaster Relief
c/o First Baptist Church of Moody
902 Church Street
Moody, AL 35004

If you would like to send a monetary donation, please memo your check as Disaster Relief.

And above all, we request your prayers. God bless!

Getting stuff together to mail out tomorrow. Thanks for letting us know what is needed. And if anyone is interested I just checked the price to ship a large flat rate box through USPS and it is 14.95. So going to fit as much stuff as I can in there.

Sent out 4 boxes today. 2 are flat rate boxes(with the heavy stuff) and 2 are being sent parcel post. I really admire what you’re doing. So many times I want to help by donating some of my stockpile but never have an address to send them to. Hopefully this will help out. We all save so much money with your sitesI ( I actually learned about this on swaggrabber.com) I”m sure you will receive a good amount because serious couponers always have a nice stockpile and know the next freebie is just around the corner. Let’s get together everyone and help these people out.

Kristin,
With your permission, I’d like to approach the pastor at our church. I’d like to get as many members of our congregation aware of First Baptist of Moody as an option for sending donations for AL. If our pastor asks for a point of contact, who should I direct him to?

I’m putting together a box right now. I may not have money to donate but this is certainly a good cause for those items I’ve been stockpiling during sales. May it help all those families who need it.

Hi Kristin,

Thank you for posting the info. I told my 2 preschoolers what happened and how lots of families lost everything. This was a great way for me to show them how they can help others like Jesus would want us too. So we filled 2 boxes of toys, stuffed animals some new with tags and a box of baby items ( blankets, new bottles, rattles, teething rings ect…). I will ship them out Monday from Illinois.
We have everyone in our prayers!!

Kristin,
I just chatted with Missy via facebook and will meet up with her on Tuesday with whatever I can collect. So glad you and your family made it through- seeing the footage brought back memories of the 2004 hurricanes we faced here in Central Florida but much worse–it’s hard to look at all that destruction everyday, you are in my prayers.

Hi! I felt moved to get before the church body this morning at church. I am a couponer & have followed your blog for a few years now. I asked member who wanted to help with the shipping fee b/c I have all the products. I had several people come up and give me a checks or cash. So, we are sending several boxes your way from House of Mercy church in Athens, TX. Our prayer is the people there in Alabama will be encouraged, find hope, and the products will find their way into just the right hands. Keep us posted in all the work your church does in helping those who are suffering. These people will be more than conquerors! They may be going through something that seems devastating right now, but God is BIG. When they come out of this, they will be all the stronger & have a great testimony of the power of God on so many levels. God Bless!

Just to let everyone know, there is a coupon in the Staples weekly ad to save $3 when you ship via UPS at the Staples store. I thought the flat rate boxes at the post office were very small and it would have taken me three large boxes for everything I wanted to send. Instead I used a bigger cardboard box and loaded everything in – it weighed 24lbs! After the coupon it only cost me $17 to ship via UPS- so a LOT cheaper than it would have been using the post office boxes (nearly $45!).

Hey there. I’m in Alabama. Thank you. I just wanted to let you know one thing we do definitely need you to do if you are sending liquid donations. Please tape the lids down. We are getting great donations but sone are ruined because of leakage.

Hi. I am an Army wife stationed at Fort Carson, CO. We have a family who’s family in Alabama (Flat Rock) lost loved ones and I have been trying to find somewhere to donate all of the clothing we had donated by all our families. I know it has been a few weeks but we still have all of the clothes. I was wondering if you may have some idea of somewhere in Flat Rock or Jackson County in general. We just want to help and if we can’t send them to Flat Rock we may be able to send them to you and your church if you are still taking donations. I hope you all have been able to find some peace in all of the craziness that was caused by the storms.
Sincerely,
Amber
