Aimee was glad her boys talked her into a 4th book this night- they found a little hidden Disney magic in their story book with the rocks in the picture.

Stephanie realized there was a Hidden Mickey in the Duffy greeting area at Disneyland California Adventure park after their last trip.

Did you know that there are over 800 Hidden Mickeys at Disney World? And to bring that magic home, I challenge you to find a Hidden Mickey in your everyday life. Be sure to take a picture and email it to me!

I thought I would take you all on a tour of my stockpile. It is definitely not Extreme, but I do have a year supply of deodorant and men’s body wash. So that’s something, right? It’s my goal to have at least a one year supply of non foods and about a 3 month supply of food. I think that is a very attainable stockpile that won’t take up an entire bedroom in my house.

I’ll be posting Stockpile Show Offs after my bargain brags to show you how the stockpile is growing. Maybe you can grow yours along with me!

I get a lot of questions and emails on Chip and Company asking me the best ways to tour the parks. I wanted to share with you my Epcot Touring Plan to help make your Disney World Vacation more enjoyable. If you missed my last Touring Plan click here to read about Touring the Magic Kingdom.

I know like most people you have an idea what you like to do when you head to the Disney Parks. Most people try to squeeze out a couple rides on the the Big Name Attractions before the park really gets busy. Some people just go with the flow of people around the park. Other people buy guide books that teach them how to avoid the lines, I am going to show you mine for FREE!

Today I am going to talk about Epcot and over the countless visits to the park I have a set way of going around the park. I am not a big fan of crowds, nor am I a fan of lines. Most times when I goto Disney it is during the slow season. I have gone at Spring Break, July 4th and the other holidays when it has been super busy. The only time I have never gone was during Christmas as I know that is the busiest time of year. It doesn’t really matter when you go there are going to be people there and I think I have only experienced an empty park back in the early 90′s, most other times it is moderately busy. Let’s start today’s plan…

Sleep In

I stated off the last article about the Magic Kingdom by saying “Get there early.” Epcot unfortunately is not a park you can get there early, unless they have Extra AM Magic Hours or you have a ADR for Breakfast at Akershus. Most days Epcot is going to open at 9am and World Showcase around 11am. Our last trip we made breakfast reservations at Akershus Princess Storybook Dining around 8am, which I think is the perfect time to eat and hit the rides just when the park opens.(We eat fast)

Start off slow

While most people want to run and jump on Test Track when the park opens again we avoid the biggest attraction an opt for something else entirely. My family and I are big fans of the ocean and Nemo so we start off at The Living Seas with Nemo & Friends. Its a very relaxing ride and helps digest your breakfast nicely. We love getting our pictures taken with Bruce and checking out all the sea life. If you have little ones with you be sure to stop by and do Turtle Talk with Crush.

Quick Tip – Have your child sit on the very front row to interact with Crush, also something identifiable like a hat seems to get Crush’s attention. Teach your kids the word “Dude” before you go and have them use it for an additional laugh.

Today I went on a SEVEN hour shopping trip. Over an hour of that was driving (I live 30 minutes from the stores I shopped at) and another 45 minutes was lunch (mother in law treated) and another 30 minutes was fixing mistakes I made at CVS and Target (yeah I totally mess up scenarios too). But it was a massive trip to try to replenish my stockpile after depleting it to donate to the tornado victims.

But after 7 hours, I brought home over $500 worth of groceries, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and more for a whole lot less than that…

Here’s close up pictures of my haul. I shopped at Target, Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Winn Dixie, Publix and Bath and Body Works. I used deals I have posted here on the blog (excluding Publix and Winn Dixie which I am going to start posting again tomorrow). In the future I will include deals here in the post but I am very tired tonight after all this shopping!

My haul:

11 Deodorants

8 Pantene Shampoos and Conditioners

2 Renpure Shampoo and Conditioner

4 Banana Boat Lipbalm

Scissors

Wylers drink mix

Bic headache powder

8 men’s body wash

2 boxes of Cheez Its

2 boxes of Snack Wells

6 cans of Pringles

12 pack double roll Charmin (full price at Walmart)

2 DiGiorno Pizzas

6 Fruitable Juice boxes

24 boxes of Poligrip (for mother in law)

4 boxes of Fixodent (for mother in law)

6 boxes of Denture cleaner (for mother in law)

Gallon of milk

4 boxes of Pepperidge Farm crisps

13 bottles of Lawry’s marinade

10 bottles of salad dressing

1 Gillette Razor

4 bottles of Pantene Hairspray

8 bottles of Kraft bb sauce

2 packages of Twizzlers

2 Hormel Tenderloins

1 loaf of bread

2 fly swatters

1 Philadelphia Cream thing

1 can refried beans

1 kid’s shampoo

1 box Cookie Crisp

3 Lean Cuisine meals

4 canisters of Kool Aid (10c each with the $2 off Kool Aid wyb 2 Kraft bbq sauce coupon I found in the stores and the Kool Aid was B1G1!)

4 Sunny D’s

2 jars of Miracle Whip

2 Blue Bunny Ice Creams

2 bags of donuts

Skinny Cow ice cream

Icy Hot

4 jars of Smuckers Icecream topping

1 Bath and Body Works spray and 1 Pocket Bac (spent 55c on these 2)

Grand total………

Spent $145.79

Have $11.98 Up Rewards, $12.50 RRs, $6 ECBs and a $5 Target gift card to spend in the future (that’s $35.48)

It felt good to get out and actually bargain shop again. I took mother in law along and she was amazed at how much money I was able to save.

This tutorial was written by my reader Vikki

Over the last year and a half as I’ve saved for family vacations, I’ve made hundreds of dollars cleaning out my house and selling items on Craigslist. The biggest item (literally and price-wise) I’ve unloaded was my daughters’ set of bunk beds ($325); the smallest, a fish tank and supplies ($10) after we discovered we weren’t cut out to raise goldfish!

What sells best? Too small (a single Buzz Lightyear toy) and it’s not worth the gas and the drive to save a few dollars over retail or a secondhand store. Too big (a minivan), and you’re competing with professionals like dealers. Throw a whole lot of items together (“many toys and games”) and no one wants to sort through it all for the one item they like.

My best successes have been single, medium-size items, like a corner cabinet, a camera, Little Tikes playhouse, or a keyboard. I sold each of these items for $60 to $100 within a day or two after listing them on Craigslist.

Pricing: Much like a garage sale, you can set any price you want, and negotiate. If you need a large item out of your home quickly, you’ll want to list a low price and accept one of the first offers that comes near it. If you have the luxury of patience, you can set your best-hoped-for price and wait to see if anyone makes you an offer. Doesn’t sell? Re-post with a lower price after a week or two.

Be sure to check out the Craigslist categories and decide where your item belongs. For example, the “baby and kids” section overlaps with the “toys and games” section. Find other items like yours and post in that area. Check out how much sellers are asking for items like yours .

Writing a good ad is one of the most critical steps.

  1. Be specific: “Little Tikes Cookin Fun Interactive Kitchen” is going to attract more lookers than “play kitchen.” Electronics should have the model number; furniture should have dimensions.
  2. DON’T WRITE IN ALL CAPS: It’s hard to read, and it sounds like you are yelling. Don’t use multiple exclamation points for the same reason!!!!!!!!!
  3. Set up your sale item and photograph it from different angles in good lighting. Post as many photos as needed to show off the item’s selling points.
  4. List your cross streets so a buyer knows if they are willing to drive that far. Sometime a bargain doesn’t seem like one if you spend $15 in gas to get to it!
  5. Specify cash only. No exceptions.
  6. The human touch: Why are you getting rid of it: Bought a newer model? Unwanted gift? Kids grew out of it? Make your ad stand out!

Safety first. Watch for scams. Craigslist has a whole section on “avoiding scams and fraud” and I highly encourage you to read it. You may get automated responses that just don’t read right. Ignore them. If something sounds fishy, trust your gut and wait for another offer. When you meet for an exchange, have someone with you that you trust, or meet in a public place like a restaurant.

Monitor the e-mail or phone number that you listed often after your ad goes live, Answer questions from potential buyers, and be honest about your item’s shortcomings – buyers know these items are in used condition. Be prepared to meet someone that evening or the next day if you are serious about selling something.

Hooray! Multiple offers?! Obviously best price with cash-in-hand wins. But what if you have two or more people who are willing to give you full price? I feel it’s courteous to give the quickest responder first shot, as long as he/she can produce the money and pick up the item in a reasonable amount of time. I also notify the “runner-up” that I have an offer on the table and ask if they want to be contacted if the first buyer falls through. It’s also good form to remove your ad from Craigslist as soon as your item sells.

Selling my personal possessions gives me mixed feelings – I was a little sad to see my kids’ outgrown Little Tikes playhouse drive away. But then I think how much someone else will enjoy it and build new memories in it. I also get a lot of selling motivation from seeing my house de-clutter and adding the money to my trip fund!

Be sure to check out all the ways to add to your fund!

Saving money….. now there’s a topic we all love. Most of you are reading my blog because you want to save more money. We save at the grocery store, we save at the drug store, but there are lots of ways we could be saving and stretching our dollar and Couponing to Disney……

This tip comes from my reader Mary…

Pour fabric softener into a spray bottle, spray an old washcloth 4-6 times, and then put in the dryer with the wet clothes. A small refill carton should last you over 1 year.
In a pail, such as an ice cream container, mix one gallon water and one cup concentrated liquid fabric softener. Every time you do laundry, dip an old washcloth into the mix, wring out, and dry with your clothes. Put the lid on the pail and don’t forget to label both the pail and lid.

Pour a 50/50 mix of fabric softener and water into a spray bottle, spray your wet clothes 3 or 4 times, or an old washcloth, then put the rag in the dryer. Basically the same as the first recipe, but less concentrated.

Mix equal parts hair conditioner and water in a spray bottle, spritz a washcloth, and dry with the wet clothes. I wouldn’t recommend this recipe too often, as hair conditioner can be very expensive.

Vinegar with a few drops of essential oil misted on an old washcloth works just as well, and is much cheaper than dryer sheets.
One fabric softened rag should last about 5 loads before you have to wash it. Old pieces of flannel work great too, if you don’t have any old washcloths kicking around. Don’t forget to wash your rags every once in a while too, not only to remove build up, but to keep them from smelling funky.

Do you have a money saving tip you’d love to see featured on Couponing to Disney? Be sure to email it to me!

1-5. From my reader Sherri….Actually, my family LOVES doing the matching shirt thing…makes it easy to keep track of each other!! Here are some of ours over the last couple of years…most we’ve made, a couple that we bought that way….

6-8. From my reader Cindy… Here are a couple pics of the type of shirts we wear when we go on vacation. Not just to DIsney but anywhere. We always have most days where we match or have some sort of theme. Makes it easy to remember what people are wearing when you get separated from them. I always did this with my oldest 3 when we went places so if one would get lost I could hold up one of the others and say “He looks just like this” My boys all looked a lot alike when they were little. These are the type of shirts we did when we went last time: We had 2 different colored shirts for 2 days that said “Biegel/Teeple family vacation to Walt Disney World 2010″ One set of them had on the back for each member of our family~I am the papa, I am the nana, I am the mom, I am the dad, I am the Biggest Brother, I am the Bigger Brother, I am the Big Brother, I am the Baby Brother. I made them using T-shirts I found on sale for $1 each, and Iron on transfers that i made with my computer. We also walk every year in an Autism Awareness Walk a Thon so we always wear those, We also each picked out our favorite baseball teams and each wore a shirt from those. We didn’t limit our “matching” theme to just our shirts, we all dressed as toy story characters for the Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween party. I even made my parents Mr & Mrs Potato Head costumes. If we don’t have matching shirts we at least try to wear the same color shirts. Makes it easier to spot in the crows of people. Sometimes it is hard when we go to match everyone because we always travel with my parents too so to find matching shirts for 8 people from sizes 2T-2XL can be hard!! Hope you find this email fun and maybe gave some people some ideas!

9-10. From my reader Stacy… These are the shirts we made before our last Disney trip Oct 2010. I wrote on your blog that I used a cricut machine and my disney cartridge to cut out the mouse head and our names witht the Disney font. Then I bought the t-shirts and spray dye at walmart in the craft section. I laid the cut- outs on the shirts and we each sprayed our own shirt. Once you take the cut- out off you have a mickey shirt! We should be able to wear theese again in Dec when we go- except for the baby! I’ll have to make her a new one.

Disney World is the Most Magical Place On Earth. Be sure to learn how to make the most of your trip by following the Disney World Training series.
