Walt Disney World has some of the best dining options anywhere on the planet in my opinion. Where else can you find such diversity in such a small location? For example in Epcot you can travel the World Showcase dining on anything from Crepes in France, Bratwurst in Germany, and Churros in Mexico. Combine the parks with all the various resorts and you are sure to loosen a belt notch or two while on vacation. (Trust me I have)
For our last vacation we opted for the Deluxe Dining Plan so we could sample all the delicious food from anywhere we wanted and not have to worry about cost. If you are booking your Disney World vacation I highly urge you to go this route if you love to eat like we do.
You get 3 Sit Down Meals a day and 2 snacks! It was a lot of food but if you pace yourself and not over do it at any meal you will be fine. With all the walking we did around the parks we found we were hungry again when it was meal time, with only a few times of feeling the notorious blah you get from over eating. Drink plenty of water!
Quick Tip – I hear all food at Walt Disney World has 0 Calories just kidding :)
Out of all the places we ate which were plenty here is our list of the 7 Places you Must Eat from our most recent trip. While there may be a bunch of your favorite places not on the list I am strictly going by our overall review of the restaurants from our most recent trip.
- Polynesian Resort – Kona Cafe – Tucked back in a corner this eating establishment is missed by most people visiting Walt Disney World. Known for the Tonga Toast, one of the small highlights for us was the POG juice. After doing some research I found out you can make it at home. Click here to make your own Kona Cafe Breakfast. The Tonga Toast was great! So great we ended up eating breakfast here twice! If you are a coffee drinker be sure to get the Kona Coffee French Press. Beats anything Starbucks has hands down. By far the best breakfast at Disney World. Click here for more on Coffee at Walt Disney World
- Animal Kingdom Lodge – Boma – This is by far one of the more unique Disney World restaurants we have ever ate at. Having never been here, and not sure what to expect I was delighted by all the wonderful African Food. Since I love to cook a lot of Indian food, for me it seemed some of the dishes had a Indian/Asian flare to them. The ribs were so good I couldn’t stop eating them. The mealie bread was delicious with the various types of hummus. We would have ate alot more than we did if our little one was so exhausted. (Parents know what I mean) We tried to go back again but couldn’t get a family friendly meal time so be sure to add this one to your Advanced Dining Reservations more than once!
- Epcot – Le Cellier Steakhouse – First off having the Deluxe Dining at this restaurant is great we both got a tremendous amount of food, but with this restaurant costing 2 credits now means you will have to sacrifice a little to eat here.
The Cheddar Cheese Soup with the home made pretzel bread was a meal its self. I would love to have some of that on a cold winters day ANYTIME! Kansas City Steak was phenomenal! I am getting hungry just thinking about it. It was so tender I could almost cut it with my fork. Honestly I could almost not fit a dessert down me after the soup and steak. (Almost was the key term)
I did not hear a single complaint from anyone around us. (Everyone was like this is sooo good!) My wife got the whiskey cake and I got the maple creme brulee both very good. If it wasn’t for a mix up at the end with our Dining Plan I would say this meal was almost perfect. - Epcot – San Angel Inn – One of my favorite places to eat we were unsure if we could dine here since it was not on the Disney Dining PDF we had before we left. So we decided to take a chance and walk in and ask. Sure enough we were able to eat here for lunch with no wait. The food here is authentic Mexican cuisine. A little different than the local restaurants we have back home. Everything was so fresh and the servers were wonderful. The atmosphere here is by far my favorite. Just something about the darkness and the Mayan Temple in the background makes this truly surreal. I try to always get something different here and have not found anything I didn’t like. Unfortunately for dessert I always get the flan. (Mmmm flan!) So on your walk around the World Showcase stop by here for Lunch or Dinner and have a great meal.
- Animal Kingdom – Tusker House – This was a tough decision for breakfast. 1900 Park Fare was great at the Grand Floridan, the unique characters, and the make your own omelets. Ohana’s Best Friends Breakfast was good too with the Polynesian touches to the meal from the fruity breads, to the potatoes. But I believe the Tusker House beat them out just barely due to the more authentic breakfast finds. The various casseroles and frittatas were great.(Warning this place is very busy and very loud) Usually we can get in and out of most restaurants fairly quick this one due to all the people took a lot longer than normal. Still the food was well worth the wait.
- Hollywood Studios – Starring Rolls Cafe – While this is not quite a meal this is hands down the best place to grab a snack in all of Walt Disney World. The treats here are so delicious it can almost bring a tear to your eye. Standing in front of the counter looking at all the goodies will send you into a sugar coma. Many of people have walked into Starring Rolls hungry only to leave stuffed and a big grin on their face.
- Polynesian Resort – Ohana’s – Last but not least and always one of our favorites. Ohana’s delivers Polynesian food with Style. Starting from the very beginning when they bring out the salad it is a feast for your taste buds. Pork, Steak, Shrimp, all cooked perfectly and favorable. I could honestly eat this food everyday and we always make it a point to eat here. There is nothing they serve that I don’t like. Just be sure to save room at the end for the bread pudding! Hands down my favorite restaurant of all time.
All the food was very good at Disney World and it was very hard to narrow it down to just 7. We always try visiting new places every year we go. So far we have never been disappointed with Disney. That is one of the reason we find ourselves going back every year.

OHANA is our favorite! We {11 in the group that goes} all could eat there every night and not get bored. It is just wonderful:)
Save me a seat!
We loved our character breakfast at Tusker House! GREAT food!
Tusker House was awesome!!! Went for breakfast, food was excellent and there was plenty of interaction between Donald Duck and his friends with the kids! Would definitely do again!
We just love the Boma breakfast! It is fantastic. And we really enjoyed the Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom for lunch.wish we could go to disney every year, but I will gladly take every other.Planning for next year to go shortly right after Thanksgiving when they start to decorate for Christmas.
Ohanas is the BOMB!!!! And we love Whisphering Canyon as well.
Oh, you need to try Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village – I really enjoyed it much more than Boma. We just tried it for the first time in March – loved it, and you have an amazing view of the savannah during your meal. :-)
Here’s some pics:

We love Boma! Can’t wait to eat there in a couple of weeks. Also the California Grill.
Thank you for the POG juice recipe. My husband LOVES it.
My favorite would have to be the O’hana dinner (not the show)! Everything was delicious! I’m not a big fan of the bread pudding, but I know many who love it.
BTW, I couldn’t find anything I liked at Boma. Just my not a fan of the flavors, myself.
Our family’s favorite was the 50s prime time cafe. It was like stepping back in time! The peanut butter & jelly milkshake was so delicious! The thing that makes this place is the waiter. He called us all “cousin”, told us not to put our elbows on the table & had our kids take their dirty dishes to the kitchen. When my brother tried to tattle on one of us, we all pointed our finger at him & called him a tattle tale. Shame on you! We laughed the entire meal, it was such a fun experience. It is a fun, unique place to eat.
Our party also enjoyed Teppan Edo & Le Cellulier. I highly recommend both of these as well!
Great suggestions! I also like Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. Going to have to go Deluxe next time and try some new things!
I am bummed my favorite is not on here. I found the food especially the broccoli dish at the Crystal Palace to be the bomb!! Also the Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney yum!!!
I’m with Tami – the Earl of Sandwich at Dowtown Disney is a great place for nice, fast, cheap eats. I’m frugal and don’t like to spend a lot of money (or time) on food. Plus they offer a AAA discount. We ate there at least four times during our stay once one of our friends introduced us to the place. We live in Virginia and every weekend since – I start the day with asking hubby if we can eat at Earl of Sandwich this weekend. We even looked it up and the nearest one is in Philadelphia :-( We bought our friend a gift card to the place to thank him for introducing us to it.
One of my ‘must eat’ places is the Yak and Yeti at Animal Kingdom.
Everytime we go, we must eat there. Even their lemon lime fruit spritzer is AWESOME! My husband and I always make a reservation for when it opens, so we can get seated and served quickly, stuff ourselves, then walk next door for the bird show. The timing is perfect, and it’s nice to be able to not have to walk around feeling too full, because you are afraid to miss something! (Or worse, not eat as much as you would like, for the same reason!) ;)
Great post. Noticed a few selections we’ve never tried. We visit Disney a few times a year and always enjoy our dining experience.
I have to say that our favorite Disney dining experience is California Grill located on the top floor of the Contemporary. And we also really enjoy The 50′s Prime Time Cafe – love the atmosphere,
It’s not really a restaurant, but the french bakery in Epcot is a must for us! We order a box to go and take it back to our hotel room…. YUM!
We always make reservations for dinner at the Crystal Palace. The buffet is wonderful, especially the salmon! And, we are huge Pooh fans, so we get to enjoy a character experience, too!
Thanks for this article! Our window for dining reservations opens in a few days and I’m trying to put the finishing touches on our dining plans – this will help tremendously! We did the dinner show at Polynesian last time and it was a lot of fun!
The best character meal we had was at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian. We had a character breakfast with Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice, and the Mad Hatter! The best non-character sit-down restaurant was hands-down Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge! Loved it!!!
I would have to say Coral Reef, Cape May Cafe (for breakfast) and House of Blues are some of our favorites. Coming in close behind are Rainforest Cafe and TRex. (I know, I’m a sucker for a fun location!!)
The French onion soup at Les Chefs de France is incredible! I love going there for lunch. So good! Pricey, but INCREDIBLE! Granted, I won’t be going there with my kids as they are super picky eaters, but I just read this on the disney website:
“”Bon Appétit from Chef Remy,” a delightful visit with the adorable character from the Disney-Pixar film, Ratatouille! One of the newest additions to Walt Disney Imagineering’s living characters, this “pint-sized prodigy” makes the rounds 4 times a day, 6 days a week, visiting Guests from atop a rolling chef’s cart as he dances, laughs and even says “cheese” for photos!
oh my…my little one loves Ratatouille…we’ll have to check this one out!
I agree with all your picks except Le Celliar. Disapointing! Way too crowded and not the best service. I love the cheddar soup but will get my fix at the f&w booth from here on out. we ate there once and once was enough! For steaks- I love the yachtsman!
My very favorites are Artist Point (oh mushroom soup!) and Brown Derby (oh grapefruit cake!) We also always hit the bakery in Norway up. We buy lefse to eat for breakfast in the room and I get a viking coffee no matter how hot it is.
Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. The food was awesome the the interactive atmosphere kept us laughing! Wilderness Lodge is something to see if you haven’t been there.
I agree, we stayed there the last time we went and everything about it is incredible…well, the pool was a little bland, but otherwise everything was perfect. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Whispering Canyon Cafe!
Make sure to try Boma’s for breakfast – my favorite breakfast restaurant. Has a great mix of American and Ethnic breakfast buffets.
My fave is the T Rex restaurant at Downtown Disney. The kids can dig for fossils while waiting for our food. I save my Pampers points for a Build a Bear Gift Card and use it here to build a Dinosaur. Great food with a fabulous kid fun atmosphere.
We just returned from a 7 day visit to Disney world, and must say that all 9 family members loved Ohana. We were there celebrating my daughter’s 15 birthday. They brought out a special dessert for her with a candle in it, and had everyone in the restaurant sing happy birthday to her. My personal favorite meat was the shrimp. We also really enjoyed the views from the San Angel Inn.
On our first trip to Disney I treated my husband to a surprise dinner at Victoria and Alberts in the Grand Floridian. This was by far the BEST dining experience that my husband and I have had and he is a restauranteur and Chef. I was able to get the dining room basically to ourselves and we got a full tour of the kitchen and a behind the scenes look at who Disney runs the restaurants. I know that this is not for children under maybe the age of 15 but it is so worth the experience. We also like the Rain Forest Cafe (per my son sitting next to me)
Our must eats are:
-Beaches & Cream (Beach Club)for the best tasting burgers you’ll ever eat.
-Wolfgang Puck Express at DTD Marketplace
-Kona Cafe (but you can get the Tonga Toast cheaper at Capt Cooks too)
-Capt Cooks (for the Hawaiian BBQ Sandwich) & Dole Whip of course
-Boma for Dinner
-Ghirardelli’s
We’ve tried a good many of the pricier places and try a new 1 or 2 every year, but these are the staples we must go to every year. Along with the popcorn and turkey leg!
O’Hana is our absolute favorite! We could eat there everyday. This year we are going to do breakfast at O’Hana’s for the first time. We are also going to try Boma, Yak&Yeti, and the Akershus Dining Hall.
Love the sushi at California Grill. Also, I enjoy the simplicity of the fish and chips at Great Britain in Epcot.
