June 2011

We saw Fantasmic for the first time tonight. Wow. We also made it back to our resort in time to catch Wishes. A great ending to a great day!

Melissa asked her 3 year old daughter to throw away some old batteries and she noticed she was holding Mickey!

This paper lantern display was in Audrey’s Party City store!

Did you know that there are over 800 Hidden Mickeys at Disney World? And to bring that magic home, I challenge you to find a Hidden Mickey in your everyday life. Be sure to take a picture and email it to me!

Jackie sent in a picture of her Disney savings jar. Isn’t it awesome? Here’s what she had to say:

You’ve inspired the kids and I to put all of our change towards our 2013 Disney vacation (in addition to our other savings techniques). Every time the kids find change on the ground they get so excited and can’t wait to get home to put it in the Disney jar. Thanks for all that you do!  We enjoy your site everyday :)

The Disney Vacation Club is the Disney’s version of a timeshare. However, it has many perks and benefits that make the term ‘timeshare’ seem inadequate. As you know, Disney doesn’t do anything halfway.

The Disney Vacation Club (also called the DVC) works on a points system. You buy a specific number of points and you are allowed to cash those points in at over 500 locations throughout Disney World, Disneyland, The United States and even overseas. Each year you are issued your points, but you can bank or borrow points from one year to the next to maximize your trip. And even though you might start with a minimal amount of points, you can purchase additional points as your needs change.

So what can your points get you? Here’s an example form the Disney Vacation Club website:

  • 47 Vacation Points gets you a Deluxe Studio at Disney’s BoardWalk Villas for a 3-day weekend (Friday – Sunday) in September 2011.
  • 117 Vacation Points gets you a 1-Bedroom Villa at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
  • 120 Vacation Points gets you a Deluxe Studio at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa for the week of July 4, 2011.
  • 160 Vacation Points gets you a 1-Bedroom Villa along the Southern Coast of Spain for a week during high season in 2011.
  • 196 Vacation Points gets you a 4-night cruise to the Bahamas in a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Disney Cruise Line for 2 adults in October 2011.

If you are interested in purchasing into the Disney Vacation Club, I highly suggest you order the FREE DVD and stop by the DVC kiosks when you are on your next Disney vacation. You can even schedule a no hassle tour on your next Disney vacation. It takes a couple hours, they provide childcare and they even give you a perk for taking the tour (I’ve heard of gift cards and Fastpasses for your entire party). Be sure to schedule your tour as soon as you arrive for your vacation if you are interested.

Table Service makes up most of our Disney Dining Options when we visit Walt Disney World as a family. We enjoy a good sit down meal to break away from the hustle and bustle of the Disney Parks. We are avid Disney Deluxe Dining Plan users and with so many choices we love trying new places and enjoying familiar favorites.

Here is my list of Top Disney World Table Service Restaurants.

5. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater – The first thing that stands out about this restaurant is the seating arrangements. Having your meal in a convertible is one of Disney’s most unique Dining experiences. I love the B-Movie trailers that run on the Drive-In Screen they are hilarious. Finally be sure to get a milkshake, I would have to say they are the best in all of Disney World!

4. San Angel Inn – Is my top choice as most romantic Dining Experience. The food is about as authentic as you can get, and much different than the Tex-Mex restaurants from back home. Make sure to jump on Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros before you leave Mexico.

3. Le Cellier Steakhouse – By far the best place to grab a steak at Walt Disney World. Always cooked to perfection with the best sides available. Be sure to sample the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, and the Chocolate Moose! YUMMY. To bad they are a signature 2 credit restaurant now.

2. ‘Ohana – A very unique meal, served family style the skewered meats are heavenly! There is not one thing on this menu I don’t like and I find myself asking for seconds on just about everything. The bread pudding a la mode with Banana Foster sauce is my favorite dessert at Disney. The live entertainment is a perfect accompaniment with the meal!

1. Boma - If I could sum up Boma in one word it would be Flavor. The flavors of this all you can eat buffet is perfect. A fusion of Asian and India cuisines this is one restaurant you will come hungry and leave satisfied. I suggest making 2 reservations here on your next vacation.

This was a very hard list to make as there are sooooo many Top Eats at Disney World.

What are some of your favorites let us know in the comment section below.

If you have any books, electronics, video games or DVD/Blurays sitting around your house taking up space, Amazon has a trade-in program for items in GOOD condition.

I recently came across some books that weren’t being used, including a homeschool math kit that was no longer my son’s level.  I would never get much out of it from a garage sale, and looked for an online book buy-back program.  Before this, I had no idea Amazon would BUY back items!

It’s fairly easy, just go to the Amazon website and type in “Trade In” and you’ll go to their program and work in the category of items you are trying to trade.  Then you’ll enter your item to see if it is one they are buying back and they give you an idea of how much they’ll pay for it.  I did have a title they didn’t have listed, so couldn’t sell it back.

When you are done, you put in your information and also get a mailing label you can print- you don’t pay any shipping!  You’ll also be alerted when the items arrive.  You have about a week to get it sent out, so don’t wait too long.

What are you trading for? You get an Amazon credit for your items in your account which you can use like a gift card on future check out items.  I got over $50 for the math kit I had purchased from another site which was about what I paid for it!

Yay for more money in my Disney fund!

This is a guest post by my reader Tracie…

A few years ago we built our home here in rural Pennsylvania. My hopes and dreams of having lush flower beds and gardens literally grew over the years with plant purchases we made and best of all generous gifts of perennials from family and friends. My gardens now lush and beautiful, need lots of care and dividing….enter my bright idea…sell them  for a reasonable price so that others can enjoy their beauty and we get to add to our fund! As a young girl I always had a love for flowers and perennials,it’s rubbed off slightly to my children.
My children and I are always looking for ways to save or earn money for our Disney fund. That idea was put into action and we decided that we would share all of our flourishing perennials by setting up a small plant stand at the end of our driveway. We are very rural here in PA so a lemonade stand would never work! Our stand overflows with Sedums, Iris, Coneflowers and many many more throughout the season. We charge $2.00 per medium size pot and it’s completly done by using the honor system. The children love it and enjoy choosing the plants to separate and then share. It’s been a great way for us to add to our fund, and I know that the people buying them will enjoy them for years to come!
