If you have any books, electronics, video games or DVD/Blurays sitting around your house taking up space, Amazon has a trade-in program for items in GOOD condition.
I recently came across some books that weren’t being used, including a homeschool math kit that was no longer my son’s level. I would never get much out of it from a garage sale, and looked for an online book buy-back program. Before this, I had no idea Amazon would BUY back items!
It’s fairly easy, just go to the Amazon website and type in “Trade In” and you’ll go to their program and work in the category of items you are trying to trade. Then you’ll enter your item to see if it is one they are buying back and they give you an idea of how much they’ll pay for it. I did have a title they didn’t have listed, so couldn’t sell it back.
When you are done, you put in your information and also get a mailing label you can print- you don’t pay any shipping! You’ll also be alerted when the items arrive. You have about a week to get it sent out, so don’t wait too long.
What are you trading for? You get an Amazon credit for your items in your account which you can use like a gift card on future check out items. I got over $50 for the math kit I had purchased from another site which was about what I paid for it!

I, too, love saving money! I am a busy Army wife, mom, full-time worker, and Graduate student. Because I’ve been going to school the past 3 1/2 years (associate’s, bachelor’s, and now master’s degree), I have accumulated a lot of school books. I have traded in books with Amazon twice this year, 12 in February, and 5 within the past week. The first time, I received about $450 as an Amazon gift card, and the second time I will be receiving about $250. The school I go to includes my books at no additional charge (the tuition is certainly high enough), so I had no “extra” out of pocket expense with the books. That’s a win-win for me…and I’ve used the money to buy various things on the Amazon site that I might otherwise buy in a store (big purchase was the KtichenAid ice cream attachment). When things arrive either by UPS, FedEx, or the U.S. Mail, it’s like getting a Christmas present from myself :-)
I had no idea they did this. Very cool! I just looked up two books that I know we have two of, as my husband and I both had a copy before we got married. One of them is coming up as less than $2, which is about what I would expect from a garage sale, so not really worth it … but the other is coming up at about half of what I paid for it (as I bought it used from the school bookstore when I was in college, but it’s still in good condition), and a lot more than I could get at a garage sale, I’m sure. Yay!
This just made me $130!!! You are too awesome!
I’ve traded in some video games but never anything big.
