Plastic Jungle: Discounted Gift Cards + deposit to the Disney fund

in Extra Cash,Our Disney Fund 2011

I recently started using the site Plastic Jungle. We all end up with gift cards that we just can’t or won’t use. This site will give you money to sell your gift card in the form of Amazon.com credit, Paypal, Cashiers Check, or you can even donate it to charity!

Selling your gift cards with Plastic Jungle is really fast, and extremely simple. It took me less than 5 minutes to sell a gift card that I am positive that I will not use and now I can add $26.46 to my Disney Fund. I had to mail the gift card to the recipient and then Plastic Jungle sent me an Amazon gift card for $26.24. I used it to buy some items I needed and took $26.24 in cash out of my budget to put in the fund.

Plastic Jungle also has a large variety of discounted gift cards for sale. Shipping is always free. They also have a feature that will allow you to sign up for email alerts when they get in stock the gift card you’re waiting for. If you know that you are going to buy something from a specific store and are looking for an additional discount, this is a great place to look at!

$26.24 added to the Disney Fund. $2222.29 saved since June 1st, 2010. (Goal is $3,000.)

You can see all the previous deposits here.

And thanks to Plastic Jungle for sponsoring the Social Soiree party in San Diego!

You can also save a lot of money by buying giftcards from Plastic Jungle that you know you will need. For example, if you know that you will be spending money at Kohls for school clothes for your kids, you can save an extra 16% on top of store savings and coupons!!!! Thanks for letting me know about this site!!!!!!!

I use Plastic Jungle to buy gift cards at a discount. I then use coupons when I purchase items (on sale) and get even greater value for my money. It’s a great deal.

I have a question about your “Disney Fund” do you keep the money in a savings account/bank account of some kind or do you have the cash in a jar like I saw in another post? I’m just looking for some tips as I start to make “vacation” budgets.

Also you mentioned in another post of wanting to go to Disneyland will your budget change? Just curious….

I keep my fund in a separate savings account. :)

My budget changes a little each time that I go. I usually do a mock package on the Disney website and work my budget from there..

oh okay thanks! I was just wondering….i like to get budgeting ideas from other people. That’s a good idea about making “mock packages” i’ve done that also. Like some people have said to do it to get the free meal packages they are offering right now :)

if you live in california or ever plan to visit, take every gift card that you wont use with you. if a gift card has a balance of $9.99 or less, you can ask for the cash. if you have a $50 gift card, you can buy 5 $9.99 cards and then get the remaining 5c in cash. then you can just hand over the $9.99 gift cards and request cash. there is nothing illegal about this. california has a consumer law that lets you do this.

its under the 2nd basic rule at the top. :)

My experience with Plastic Jungle was not good. I bought a $200 gift card for California Pizza Kitchen from them and tried to use it after taking a group of 12 people out for his high school graduation dinner, but the server brought it back to me and said there were no funds on the card. I couldn’t believe it. When I called Plastic Jungle the following day they could offer me no explanation as to what had happened. They did refund my money, but would do nothing more.

As an alternative to Plastic Jungle, I have used Gift Card Rescue and have never had any problems.

I have some reservations about mailing my gift cards without any security/insurance. If plastic jungle wants you to mail them any sum of gift cards shouldn’t there be some type of assurance of payment if they get lost. Perhaps a tracking number or something? Do you not worry about this? Just curious as to your experience and take. Thanks in advance.

Just another idea for you-

I had a couple gift cards I was not going to use. Since there seemed to be mixed reviews about Plastic Jungle, I sold my gift cards on ebay. For example, I had a $25 dollar Olive Garden gc that I sold for $23 and I offered “free shipping” (aka I paid for the stamp on the envelope). It was nice because the money went straight to my Paypal!
