September 2011

Amy saw these tomatoes in an issue of Rachael Ray magazine.

Here’s a two-sided Mickey from a laptop cord that Christine found.

Did you know that there are over 800 Hidden Mickeys at Disney World? And to bring that magic home, I challenge you to find a Hidden Mickey in your everyday life. Be sure to take a picture and email it to me!

Dole Whip Float

Part of the magic behind a Disney World vacation is revisiting those things that you just can’t get anywhere else. When we experience them for the first time at the Disney Parks, we are hooked! During each visit we taste, ride, see, or hear them again and again.

But what if we could experience those things year round in our own back yard, so to speak?

In that vein, here is my Top 5 Disney World Experiences we want outside the Parks:

5. Attention to Detail. No one does this like Disney! Every detail is plussed to the max. The cleanliness stands out, as does the
extraordinary theming. And I’m not alone in desiring a little Disney detailing in my everyday life, as the new TV show My Yard Goes Disney attests!

4. Dole Whip Float. I don’t think you can even get this Island Treat in the real Hawaii! But if you’re one of the people who will stand in line for hours just to get a spoonful, then you know that this confection should be sold worldwide! Of course you could always try to make it at home.

3. Cast Members. Imagine if all service personal that you come into contact with during your normal day had that Disney attitude! No more surely grocery store clerks. No more indifferent bank tellers. Just smiling faces everywhere!

And my wife said that what she would like is a Cast Member standing on every corner to help her find her way. On the street. In the mall. Everywhere! Nothing like that two-finger point to clarify your direction in life.

2. Monorails. OK, I know these marvels of transportation are found outside WDW. Las Vegas has one (for now), as does most of Asia. But here in North America, a Monorail ride is almost impossible to enjoy outside the parks, as it were!

Imagine again that your child could walk to the end of your driveway and board a Monorail to school. Morning commutes to work on Monorail Teal? Bring it on! And no more lite rail trains to block you at every intersection. Now that’s my vision of transportation heaven!

1. Mickey Premium Bars. Delish! It’s almost pointless to try to convince anyone that this would be a good idea as I’m sure you’re all on board for this one! My friend Ashley sure is, and you can read her lament here over this confections exclusivity.

Have I missed your favorite WDW thing that you want outside the parks? Let me know in the comments section!

I enjoy bargain shopping. I enjoy the rush of getting a great deal. I REALLY enjoy the time to myself. I have a playlist on my iPhone featuring all my favorite songs. I put an ear bud in one of my ears and enjoy my music while I shop. It’s my ‘me time’.

I also usually stop for a delicious lunch while I am out too. One of my favorite restaurants is Panera Bread and sometimes I will plan my shopping trip on that side of town so I can stop and treat myself.

If you are new to Couponing, you might want to take a moment to read more in my Getting Started Couponing series. It will teach you how to coupon like I do!

If you are new to shopping at Rite Aid, be sure to read this tutorial. How to use Rite Aid to “Coupon to Disney”:

  • Save on items that you normally buy. You can usually get free shampoo, conditioner, razors, toothbrushes, etc here. I also find that they have fairly cheap soda too.
  • After you have shopped here a few weeks, you will start to build up your Up Rewards. Rite Aid usually has 1 or 2 ‘money making’ deals a week. By using Up Rewards to pay for items, you essentially eliminate your out of pocket costs and get everything you buy at Rite Aid for ‘free’.
  • Rite Aid has monthly rebates called Single Check Rewards (SCR). Use Up Rewards to pay for the items that are eligible for the SCR. When the check comes from Rite Aid each month, deposit it into your fund!
  • Use your Up Rewards to pay for items that are eligible for rebates. When the check arrives, deposit it into your fund!
