Here’s how a typical person uses coupons:
- The typical person browses 1 Sunday paper and cuts out coupons they will use that week and throws the rest of the coupons away.
- The typical person buys an item because they have a coupon even if it is still more expensive than the competitor.
- The typical person shops at just one store.
- The typical person falls in love with a product they used a coupon on and buys it the following week without a coupon.
Here’s how a couponer uses coupons:
- The typical couponer browses 4 or more Sunday papers and keeps all of their coupons because they know a store typically puts items on sale 3-4 weeks after the coupon was in the paper.
- The typical couponer buys an item when it is on sale and they have a coupon.
- The typical couponer shops at multiple stores.
- The typical couponer falls in love with a product they used a coupon on and are grateful that they stocked up when they had a coupon and it was on sale.

A typical person uses a coupon to buy only what they need at the moment.
A typical couponer uses coupons to buy sale items to last them until the next time they will be on sale. People scoff at me, and ask why I possibly need 6 or 7 deoderants or toothpastes or whatever at a time. Ummm, so I don’t have to PAY for them!! It is all so simple!

I love this list!! So True!! I have a friend well her Mom falls in category number 1. And when I try and explain category number 2 to my friend she doesn’t get it. She lives in an area that gets Redplum coupons on Wednesdays and in the paper on sunday and shes always going on how they have double coupons and I’m all omg thats great! I don’t get coupons on wednesdays. :(
Oh well some ppl just don’t want to listen at least I know i’m a number 2

A typical person will buy a few things on clearance because it’s a good price.
A couponer will have a coupon for each of the clearance items, buy them, and give them to neighbors, co-workers, and family because it was such a great deal and they couldn’t wait to share! ;)
A typical person will gulp when they see the prices at a new area (moving, vacation, etc) but pay them anyway.
A couponer will have their binder with them, along with the current sales bookmarked on their computer, the stores’ coupon policies, and a shopping list for the week, and a list for “just in case” items. :D

I’ve just started doing real couponing in the past year. Since I’ve started I get so excited about all the wonderful deals I can get, that I’ve really started trying to educate my family and friends on ways to do it and save money. Looking back I can’t believe I ever use to pay full price for toothpaste, yogurt, cereal, etc etc….

I’m half of one and half of the other. What does that make me? ;)
