Grow Your Fund is a daily post that gives you a chance to win prizes by checking in on all the various challenges you are participating in. You can choose to participate in one, two or even all of the challenges giving you even more opportunities to Grow Your Fund!

The Challenges

No Dining Out: The concept is simple, lower your family’s dining out bill and add the money you save to your fund.

Minniemizing for the Mouse: Get in shape for your trip to Disney by walking at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The average person walks 8 or more miles a day at Disney World. Your feet will thank you!
Not going to Disney? Don’t worry. You can participate too. Just commit to working out at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week!

Budget Challenge: Can your family stay on budget this month for groceries, entertainment, dining, etc? Do you think you could even challenge yourself not to spend a dime 5 days this month? Be sure to report on your spending vs your budget every day. The goal is to be able to add the extra money saved at the end of the month to your fund!
*If you haven’t set a budget yet, you might want to check out this post.

Decluttering Challenge: Is your stuff starting to overtake your house? Do you feel like your kids room is full of too much junk and not enough fun? If so, I challenge you to find a new home for just 25 items a day for the next 30 days. This could be 25 articles of clothing, 25 books you no longer read, 25 toys your kids ignore. Have a box for items to donations, a box for items to sell and throw the rest away! At the end of the challenge, have a yard sale and add the earnings to your fund!

The prizes

At the end of each month, I will pick FOUR winners who will each receive $25 to add to their fund. Look for the winners to be announced on the 3rd of each month.

How to enter

Leave a comment with the title of the challenges it is for. You can participate in one, two, three or even all four challenges. There will be one winner per challenge, and winners can win multiple times! It’s all done by using Random.org, so if your number comes up and you are eligible, you win! In order to be eligible to win, you must actively participate in the challenge for at least FIVE calendar days.

My Weight Loss Update

I started Medifast on September 3rd and I weighed 260.0. I weighed in this morning and I weighed 242.0. I’ve lost 18 pounds in 4 weeks! I’m so excited and definitely inspired to keep going to reach my goals.

This week was harder to stay on plan due to not only the birth of my sister’s baby (I’ve been running back and forth to her house to help her), but also due to the fact that I am PMSing and I am always hungrier this time of the month. I made it thru yesterday and then the cravings got the better of me and I let myself have a sandwich from Subway. But it’s back on plan today and sticking to it for at least another month. I feel too good to not stick with it.

My best friend and I have decided to start training for the Half Princess Marathon at Disney World in 2013. So this week I am going to start the couch to 5k program. Has anyone done that? Any tips for me?

I will be updating you on my weight loss at least once a week. And if you do want to try Medifast with me (I warn you, it is not an inexpensive diet but when you consider that you won’t be buying a lot of groceries for yourself, it’s not bad. Plus you can’t put a price tag on being thin…), Medifast gave me a code for $50 off your $275 purchase. Just enter Disney50 at checkout.

*FTC Disclosure: Medifast provides their products for my personal use for free. I am not paid or compensated in any other way for mentioning their products (although I want to shout from the rooftops about my success which you know the results are ‘not typical’). All thoughts and opinions here on my blog are 100% mine. I am very inspired to be given this amazing opportunity, and I want to share my success with all my readers friends. Thank you for reading my blog. It’s because of your tremendous support and encouragement that I was given this opportunity. And that means more to me than words can say.

Despite what you may think, there are things to do at Disney that don’t require park tickets. Believe it or not, you can have a fun day at Walt Disney World packed full of Disney magic without ever passing through a turnstile. How?

Check out my Top 5 Things To Do at Disney World Without Tickets to find out!

1. Downtown Disney – Downtown Disney offers LOTS of shopping and dining! I can easily spend hours here wanding through the World of Disney, Trend-D, and the Art of Disney Kids will also enjoy Once Upon a Toy store, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and the giant Lego store with lego statues representing Disney characters and even a family visiting Disney World! There’s also entertainment here at night which you can particpate in! Check out Guide to Downtown Disney – “Must-Sees’ for First Timers for more info!

2. Resort Hop - For a full, yet relaxing day, hop aboard the Monorail and visit some of Disney’s deluxe resorts to check out their magnificent lobbies, restaurants, shops, views, decor, and Hidden Mickeys! They are also a great place for photo ops! You can board a ferry and visit both Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, or walk from Epcot to the Yacht and Beach Club and the Boardwalk for some beautiful views, seaside decor, and dining. Check out Chip’s series of Resort Hopping 101 here.

3. Pool Time - Every Disney Resort offers great pools, usually several per resort! You can easily spend hours relaxing by the pool and going for a swim on a hot day!

4. The Boardwalk-Located next door to Epcot and across the water from the Yacht and Beach Club, the Boardwalk offers a resort, restaurants, entertainment, sweet treats, shopping, and more! My favorite time to visit the Boardwalk is in the evening where you can enjoy some Boardwalk games and the live entertainment!

5. Resort Activities-Most Disney resorts have tons of things to do and see that you may not be aware of. For example, at many of the resorts, you can take advantage of the watercraft available for a cruise or a fishing excursion. You can also rent a surrey bike and tour the resort grounds with your family! There’s also the torch-lighting ceremony at the Polynesian, live music in the Grand Floridian’s lobby, spas, and hammocks on the beach! You can also take a tour of Wilderness Lodge, watch the roaming animals at Animal Kingdom Lodge, or visit Fort Wilderness to pet and ride the horses at Tri-Circle-D Ranch or challenge your family to a game of checkers. For more resort activities, ask a Cast Member or visit the concierge desk at your resort for a list and times!

Taking a day off from the parks and taking advantage of these activities are both enjoyable and beneficial. Not only do they offer magical experiences, but they are also great for guests who have been rushing around the parks and need a slower pace. This is especially true for little princes and princesses, seniors, and tired parents! A day without tickets can also be great for your wallet and your vacation budget!

Disney’s Spirit of Aloha show is an all-you-can-eat family style dinner show featuring hula dancers and fire-knife performers. This show is located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. They have 2 shows on Tuesday – Saturday at 5:15 and 8 pm. They do accept the dining plan. It is 2 credits per person and it is only valid for category 2 and category 3 seating.

Each show lasts 2 hours and features dances and performances from the main islands in Hawaii. The lights are on for the first hour and then they dim the lights for the second half.

We attended the 8 pm show on our anniversary trip. If we had it to do over again, I would of reserved the 5:15 pm show instead. The show didn’t let out until 10:15 pm and that was too late for us. We ended up leaving about 9:50 so we could see Wishes from the beach at the Polynessian.

If you have attended the Spirit of Aloha show, I’d love to hear your opinion!

Disney World is the Most Magical Place On Earth. Be sure to learn how to make the most of your trip by following the Disney World Training series.

Here are random tips and tricks I have to make sure I get the longest life out of my stockpile:

  • Check expiration dates as I put them in the shopping cart. I always pick my items from the back of the items on the shelf.
  • I never stockpile a new flavor of an item. What if I don’t like the flavor? Then I am stuck with 10 bottles of something my family won’t eat.
  • I write the expiration date of the item on the front in marker.
  • At the beginning of the month, I pull out all the items that expire that month and put them on a special shelf in the pantry to make sure they are used before they expire.

Do you have any tips on how to extend the life of your stockpile?

If you have a group of friends who love to coupon, consider having a monthly coupon party. Get together and enjoy a delicious meal while you swap coupons, compare bargain hunting stories, etc. You could meet at one friend’s house or at your favorite restaurant.
