Here is a tip that’s good to know if you’ve ever purchased a voucher from a daily deal site like Groupon. Did you know that even though the vouchers have an expiration date, the amount you paid for it never expires? Just the “bonus value”. For example, if you purchase a $40 voucher for a restaurant and you paid $20 for it, if you forget to use the $40 before the expiration date, it will still be honored at the retailer for the amount you paid for it – $20.
So if you purchase a deal and accidentally let it expire, don’t write it off completely! Be sure to use it for the value you paid for it!

For one of my groupons (a little over a year ago now), Coldwater Creek refused to accept the groupon (face value) after the expiration date. Thankfully groupon was nice and they credited my account for the amount that I paid. So if one has expired, the person might want to double check with the store and if they aren’t going to accept it, then contact the daily deal site to see if they can give you a credit to your account. There’s also a reseller site for deals that you’re not going to use.
I’m glad Groupon refunded you when the store wouldn’t!
I have had this happen also..twice. Groupon did refund the money though.
I had 2 expire in July and called both places to see if they would still honor them and they both said no problem, that they didn’t care what exp date is listed on a groupon. I did both activities in Sept & neither place said a word about them being expired.
