Have you ever been guilty of over planning an experience? We plan for our Walt Disney World vacations for so long that sometimes we end up planning out way too much. Here are the biggest mistakes over planners make at Walt Disney World:
Stressing when things go wrong – I hate to tell you, but your touring plan is not going to work 100% of the time. There is no way to forsee transportation issues, unexpected crowds, weather events or meltdowns ahead of time. Instead of allowing yourself to get stressed when things go wrong, plan for it! Things are going to happen that are out of your control. Just carry on! You are at Disney after all.
Taking the touring plan too seriously – I feel like you need to plan out the first hour or so you are in the parks. This is the critical time when you can get a ton done if you have a plan. After that, don’t take things too seriously. If a magical moment pops up, enjoy it even if it isn’t part of your touring plan. Now I am not saying to throw the plan out the window or not plan at all, just give yourself some leeway.
Planning late nights and early mornings – Disney World is a hard vacation. You’ll do more walking, more time outside and more eating than your body is used to. Make sure you give it some time to rest. If you plan a late night, sleep in the next morning.
Not planning a break – You don’t have to schedule in a trip back to the resort everyday, but you need to take a break at some point. This break can be a Table Service meal, lengthy attraction, show, parade or you can just sit and people watch. But plan to rest for at least an hour each day. Your body will thank you!
Missing magical moments – If you are extremely committed to your touring plan, you might miss out on magical moments because you are too busy rushing from here to there. On our second trip, I was rushing the family from Peter Pan’s Flight to Tomorrowland Speedway when I slowed down in the right spot near the tea cups. Alice came skipping up to me and invited the kids to ride with her and the White Rabbit on The Mad Tea Party. If I hadn’t been paying attention, we might have missed the moment! There are so many small things that make Disney magical.
So make your plan, but don’t over plan it to the point where you miss out on fun!
