Interactive Queue
A new interactive Queue debuted at Disney World for Haunted Mansion in 2011. Learn about the sights to see:
- The Musical Crypt – Tap on an instrument to hear a hauntingly good tune. Tap 2 or more and create a haunting melody. Then, at the Organ tap the keys if you dare (to get squirted by water).
- Sepulcher of the Sea Captain – This poor sole drowned by taking a bath and water and bubbles still leak to this day.
- Tomb of the Posthumous Poetess – This sole needs help completing her poetry.
- The Secret Library – The books will mysteriously pop-out, push them back in and crack the code.
Madame Leota
Madame Leota (the psychic) is based on a real person, at least the name and face. Her Tombstone is also found outside and watch closely as she may open her eyes. Leota Toombs was a former Disney Imagineer during Walt Disney’s time when construction first began in Disneyland. She was asked by Disney to use her face for the attraction however her voice was “too sweet” for the character. Instead, Eleanor Audley who previously played Disney Villains, voiced Madame Leota. Alas, at the end of the attraction, Leota Toombs did get a line saying “hurry back, hurry back” to guests.
Tombstones
The majority of the Tombstones found outside the attraction are tributes to former Disney Imagineers, including those who worked on The Haunted Mansion.
- Gordon – Gordon Williams worked on: audio-animatronics, audio design and most of the sound effects in The Haunted Mansion.
- Fred – Fred Joerger worked on: set design and model builder (such as plaster rock formations) designing all the rockwork at Disney World.
- Huet – Cliff Huet worked as: lead interior designer for The Haunted Mansion.
- Dave – Dave Burkhart worked on: the Haunted Mansion, the Swiss Family Treehouse, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and more.
- Marc – Marc Davis worked on: creative aspects in theme park design and more, he is known as one of Disney’s legendary ‘Nine Old Men’.
- Myall – Chuck Myall worked as: a master planner of Disney World and more.
Stretching Room
Before you enter your Doom Buggy, guests enter the stretching room. The floor at the Orlando location does not move, instead the ceiling rises. Another secret of the stretching room is held inside the gargoyle mantle. In here is the hidden speakers to add to the special effects of this room.
Hidden Mickey
While on the attraction, pay attention to the ballroom scene where ghosts are having a birthday celebration. Here, on the table, are 3 plates creating a Hidden Mickey.
