When you’re visiting the most magical place on earth you go in with some pretty high expectations and that is exactly how we went into our most recent trip. Although the trip was overall wonderful, I learned some valuable lesson that are worth sharing. Check out my list of our top ten mistakes and what we plan to do different next time to make our trip even more magical! (You’ll want to save this!)
7 Mistakes to Avoid on Your Next Disney Trip
There is so much to see and so much to do at Disney. On your first day you’re full of joy and excitement, ready to take on Disney at break neck speed. It seems great as that adrenaline is rushing through you. Then you wake up the next day with sore feet, aching legs and grumpy, tired kids (there is also a high likelihood of a grumpy mom and the dreaded, grumpy Dad! ). For the love of your sanity and your family’s sanity, take breaks, schedule down time and go at a pace that feels right for your family. A great way to prevent the grumpy from developing is to think about hitting the parks early, get there for rope drop or an early breakfast reservation and spend the morning with lighter crowds and less intense heat. During the mid day when the parks are the most crowded and the heat is at its top temps, take a break. This can be a ride on the people mover, a quite sit down lunch, take in a show or leave. Yes, leave. Go to your room if you are staying on site, swim, nap, have lunch, watch a movie, just rest and regroup. We found after two day of ripping through the parks that we were exhausted and the kids were begging to just stay in the room. That was extremely disappointing as a mom- all that planning, spending the money and then have my kids want to lay in bed! We’ve made the decision to build in a rest day on our next trip. If your schedule and budget allow, I highly recommend you do the same!
Depending on the energy level of your family and ages of your children, it may not be realistic to see and do everything you want or expect to accomplish it in one day. Go online, talk to your travel agent, get an idea of what each park offers and decide what you really want to see. Some parks take more than a day to fully experience others you could possibly do in one day, depending you your pace. We spent one full day in each park and found that for our family that was not enough time to do all we wanted to do at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. Again this is something that will depending on your schedule and budget, but I would suggest 2 days for Magic Kingdom, 1-2 day at Epcot depending on you level of interest (my kids dislike this park so we are only planning dinner there next time), 1-2 days in Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios depending on your pace. If you are just going for rides and shows then you’ll get through faster, if you want to browse shops and stroll then plan more days.
May your trip be amazing and may you not repeat my mistakes!
