There are so many ways to save money. Which is a plus. But it can be hard to determine which apps are for you, and which apps won’t fit your needs. Which is a bummer.
One of the questions often fielded in the SavEars is, “What do you guys think of _____ app?” Or, it’s popular cousin, “What are your favorite apps for earning?” Well, we’ve got the answers for you! I’ll be reviewing new apps here, in the App Spotlight. These apps have been test driven over the course of two weeks, enabling us to bring you pros, cons, tips, and tricks.
This week’s app is…
Cash Dash
What is it?: A cash back app that rewards you with a percentage back for shopping at certain stores.
This app may look familiar to some of you, because Cash Dash used to be Find & Save. The name has changed, but the savings remain the same. Simply scan a receipt for a featured store, and receive a percentage of cash back. Pretty simple. The app changes the featured stores often, and they range from restaurants to grocery stores to retail stores. Some stores may show up on your dashboard as “locked.” To unlock, all you have to do is watch a short commercial or ad, usually about 30 seconds.
That’s it. I tried to come up with some more details to make this post longer, but it’s really a pretty straight forward app. It’s a very simple process that requires the most basic amount of technological know-how. Perfect for me!
Who is it for?: Everyone! This app is for anyone who goes shopping. The earning speed on this is going to depend on the stores in your area and your shopping patterns. In the weeks I was test driving it, featured stores included Kroger, Lowe’s, Wendy’s, Cracker Barrel, Dunkin Donuts, Barnes and Noble, CVS, Ulta, Dollar Tree, and JCPenny.
Where do I use it?: On your smart phone. Available in the app store.
When do I use it?: Receipt upload time varies by store. Make sure to check the deal’s expiration. I uploaded my receipts as soon as I had them, because I didn’t want to forget and I had two receipts with different expiration dates. Better to just do it all at once.
Why do I use it?: To get cash back at stores you are visiting anyway. This might not be a quick earner for me, but it sure is an easy one. We live in a small town, so some of the stores weren’t as accessible. However, if you’ve got a choice for a store, you might as well use the one where you are getting Cash Back. We needed to grab something from either Home Depot or Lowe’s, and chose Lowe’s because it was featured on Cash Dash. Likewise, the cash back ranges in percentages, the highest I have seen is 3%. For some stores, the cash back was a flat amount off, usually in the 40-50 cent range.
Final Verdict: Recommended. This might not be the fastest or biggest earner, but it is essentially free money for very little work. Use Kristin’s code C446 and start off with a bonus!
