If you are unsure if your family will comfortably fit in a stateroom on the Disney Cruise Line, you might be pleasantly surprised. We recently cruised on the Disney Fantasy and booked a category 4D room. This room was 299 square feet and slept 5 people. It also had a verandah which added extra space for the kids to move around.
During the day, three of the beds are folded away. Your stateroom host comes during dinner and sets up the beds (the ones that are all needed). Sometime before lunch, he comes again and puts the beds away.
Two of the beds are set up like bunk beds. The upper bunk is folded into the ceiling during the day. The lower bed is part of the couch. The third bed is a murphy bed that folds down in front of the verandah door.
The stateroom has 2 separate bathroom areas but only one toilet. One area has a bath/tub combo and a sink. The second has a toilet and a sink.
There is plenty of storage in the stateroom including ample space under the queen size bed for storing standard suitcases. Take time on your first day to unpack all of your belongings. The stateroom is absolutely not convenient for leaving items in a suitcase and only using what you need.
There is a fridge hidden in one of the cabinets. If you find the settings confusing, you can ask your stateroom host to adjust it for you.
If you would like ice each day, just let the stateroom host know. They will replenish it for you.
The only complaint I have about the stateroom is trying to enter the room with a stroller. The stateroom door is very heavy and there are closets directly behind the door. This means that there is no room for anyone to stand and hold the door open for you. I highly suggest you pack a heavy duty door stopper to hold the door open.
