Minniemizing for the Mouse

I thought I would share a picture of myself from March 2006 (one year before I had Jacob). I weighed 261 the day I delivered Emily and a little less than 2 years later, I weighed 196. Then I got pregnant with Jacob and gained it all back. But I did set the above picture as my wallpaper on my work computer so I could stay motivated.

This week’s post is late. I have had a very rough week. On Monday, January 16th, my work computer broke. I finally got it repaired and back up and running on Wednesday, January 25th. In the mean time, I had to blog on my slow laptop that doesn’t even have a battery. It was stressful. But because of that event, I discovered something about myself that I did not know.

I am not an emotional eater like I once thought. I thought that when I got upset, like crying my eyes out upset, I would eat. But I realized that I don’t. I actually get stressed out and let things get to me and then I start eating to work thru the stress. So I think the key to losing the weight once and for all is going to be to find a cure to my stress. To not let the little things get me worked up. If you have tips on how you avoid stress and/or how you work thru stress, I would love to hear them.

Because of the stress, I cheated on my diet. Now I didn’t cheat terribly, but I cheated and I need to stop that. I get so frustrated with myself, but I think now that I have this stress trigger figured out, I can work thru it.

I finally broke down and looked at the scale. I have lost a total of 12 pounds in 3 weeks. My biggest hurdle is going to be getting below 230 pounds. I currently weigh 236 and I haven’t seen less than 230 since 2006. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I am going to go after that number with a vengeance this week.

How are you doing with your weight loss efforts? It doesn’t matter if you are doing Medifast or not, I would love to hear from you!

Medifast is not cheap. I know that. But being overweight isn’t cheap either. I spent a lot of time debating on if this was something that I wanted to share on my blog. But it all comes down to the fact that I want to get rid of this weight so that I can truly enjoy Disney. And if it is by the support of my amazing readers that I do it once and for all, then I need that. I am not encouraging you to try Medifast. I am not saying that Medifast is the only or the best way to lose weight. I am just looking for support from my wonderful friends. If you don’t want to support me, please don’t comment. Just skip over the post. As Thumper said, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.” If you don’t want to offer your support or you are looking for support yourself, feel free to share.

Medifast recently introduced a new customer savings program. If you use the coupon code, DISNEY56, and sign up for Medifast Advantage when you order $250+, you’ll receive 56 free Medifast Meals and free shipping! The above picture was taken this past weekend while we waited for the children’s museum to open. The museum is located an hour from our house and we love to take the kids there. I brought along a few of my Medifast meals with me to make sure that I stayed on plan. I did. I was so proud of myself.

Saturday night, hubby and I went on a date night to Outback. Our babysitter (my little brother) was late, so it was 7 by the time we got to Outback (we had a gift card to use). We had to wait an hour on a table and finally we sat down at 8 pm. The waitress tried to bring bread to the table and I was like “No! No! No! Please go hide it from me.” By this time I was so hungry, I would have eaten it if she had sat it down. For dinner, I choose a steak with no seasoning, asparagus with no seasoning and a side salad with no dressing. It was as tasteless and bland as it sounds. I do the same thing at Logan’s, but they do a much better job with their food than Outback does. We were rushed thru our meal because they were so crowded (we left 22 minutes after we sat down). And on the way out, I passed table after table with blooming onion. And I will admit this because I am sure everyone that watches their calorie intake understands, but I freaking cried when we got in the truck because I couldn’t eat a blooming onion too. Cried! Poor hubby didn’t know what was wrong with me.

But I stuck with it. As hard as dieting is, I did not cheat. I had a very good week. I stayed on plan, made good choices and even had a fun outing with my family. And I feel really great. I can run and play with the kids and not get short winded. I can lean down and pick up something out of the floor instead of calling one of the kids to do it. I like the way I feel. And if that means never eating a blooming onion again, it is worth it. Onions make me cry anyways.

And if you are curious, I still have not weighed in. I did get on the scale this morning and hubby recorded the number for me, but I do not know it. I like it better that way. I did put on a pair of jeans that I have not been able to wear for a couple months and they fit great.

Me and my friend Tammy at Disney in Nov 2010

I have made a new rule for myself. NO DISNEY TRIPS until I hit ONEderland (that’s under 200 pounds). My hubby is on board and is going to lose weight right along with me (probably faster that I will, but you know how that goes). We both started last Wednesday (he just watches what he eats and I am doing Medifast). And I did something that might shock most women (it is a known fact that we don’t like for our husbands to know how much we weigh). I got on the scale with my eyes closed and let my husband see the number. He is the only one who knows my starting weight. And then today, one week later, I got on the scale again with my eyes closed and let him see the new number. I made sure he gave me NO feedback.

I put too much stock in the number on the scale. I can feel better and I can feel like I have lost weight, but if that number on the scale isn’t what I think it should be, I get discouraged and usually end up cheating on the diet. So this time around, I am putting stock in how I feel and not the number. He can know it for my records, but I don’t want to know it until I hit ONEderland.

This week wasn’t too hard (given that it was the first week back on plan). I googled Medifast Recipes and printed out over 100 recipes and put together a recipe binder. I also made a weekly menu of what I have in the house and that helped me to stay on plan.

I feel great! If I drop something in the floor, I can bend down and pick it up with ease. My clothes feel bigger. I have more energy and I feel more inspired. I am really happy with myself and the progress I made this week.

If you are interested in trying Medifast with me, I asked them to provide us with a coupon code (because we all love to save money!).

Did you know the average person walks 8-10 miles at Disney World? That is a ton of walking especially when you aren’t used to it. I decided to start the “Minniemize” series to inspire myself and others to get fit before their trip to Disney World. But you don’t have to be going to Disney to join this challenge. If you need to make a change in your life for the better, join us!

It doesn’t matter if you have 5 pounds or 50 pounds or 100 plus pounds to lose. Everyone is welcome to post on this thread. At the end of each month, I will pick one awesome reader who commented on at least 10 posts to win $50 via Paypal to add to their fund!

My progress:

I had a great day yesterday. I stayed within my points and spent 6 hours organizing, sorting and preparing coupons. It was a pretty good workout. LOL

My friend is going to Disney World with us in November. She and I both want to be in better shape before we go, so we are going to play the diet game The Game Is On. Hopefully it’s what we both need to kick this once and for all.
