Our Disney Trip 2010

This is a recap of our May 2010 trip….

We had one last Give A Day ticket to redeem for Fastpasses. We decided to do it on Friday at the Magic Kingdom again. Can you tell that Magic Kingdom is our favorite park? We redeemed for the Fastpass option and my husband and son took the monorail and my daughter and I took the ferry boats. We both got to the entrance at the same exact time! How funny!

We arrived in time to watch the Welcome Show. I just love this show that they do. I highly suggest you make it to the Magic Kingdom before Rope Drop and see it. It’s such a great way to start your day!

We decided to take it slow this morning and concentrate more on meeting the characters then on anything else. We waited there in front of the train station after entering the parks to meet both Daisy and Pluto. The kids just love to meet the characters! Then we jumped on the Horse and Trolly to go down Main Street. This really isn’t the fastest way to get to the castle, but we had never done it before.

When we reached the castle, we headed to the right side and up the path there. We stopped to say hello to the Step Mother and Step Sisters from Cinderella. They NEVER disappoint! Then we walked up the path a bit more and met Snow White. She kissed Jacob on the head and we couldn’t get the kiss off all day! It was too funny.

I sent Jason to Fastpass Peter Pan while we made our way to Toontown for Rope Drop. Emily and Jason went to meet the Princesses and Jacob and I went to hug Mickey and Minnie again. Yes, that boy is obsessed! We were first in line to meet them. Unfortunately we didn’t get a tour of the house. They actually allowed a family to go back (I’m thinking it was Make a Wish) so while we made it as the first family after Rope Drop, we didn’t get the tour. Which is more than fine with me. I’d gladly give every spot I have in line up for another kid.

We then rode The Barnstormer twice before catching the train to Adventureland. I sent Jason to fastpass Big Thunder while we waited to meet Woody and Jessie. Everytime we wait, the character has to go potty or check on their horse or their cheesecake or whatever. I think it’s happened at least 10 times this trip! Which is fine….. but still. Why does it always end up being us? :P

After meeting them (and they are very well worth the wait), we grabbed a quick snack and then headed over to meet Pirate Goofy. Jacob is now terrified of boat rides (thanks to my husband convincing me to let him go on Splash), so he wouldn’t ride Pirates. But Jason took Emily on a quick ride. We hung out in the awesome gift shop.

This is a trip report from our second Disney trip in May 2010.

Finally it was time for us to head to Hollywood Studios. We were so tired from our day before that we decided to sleep in and have a lazy morning….we arrived at the park at 9:20! HAHAHA. We have issues.

I sent Jason ahead to get Faspasses for Toy Story Mania and the kids and I waited to hug Pluto and Goofy. Then we made it just in time for the Playhouse Disney show at 9:40. Jacob’s enter face lit up when he saw Mickey pop up on stage. He was all smiles. It was so cute!

After the show, we went to wait on High School Musical 3′s street performance while Jason and Jacob went to grab a snack. Emily really liked it even though she hasn’t seen the movies.

Jason dragged her off to see the American Idol show and Jacob and I waited in line to hug Daisy, Donald and Minnie Mouse. He sure does love his hugs! Jason and Emily really enjoyed the Americal Idol experience.

This is a trip report from our second Disney trip…

We decided to redeem our Give A Day tickets for the Fastpass option on Wednesday. This enabled us to get 3 instant Fastpasses per person for the popular rides that use Fastpass and 3 for the less popular rides that use fastpass. We got to the Ticket and Transportation Center around 7:45 to make sure we had plenty of time to do this. We then took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We got there and lined up in the middle to be sure to see the welcome show. We didn’t need to rush back to any ride, so we werent in a huge hurry.

The first focus of the day was Peter Pan (Emily’s favorite ride.) We rode it twice and actually noticed a few new things! Then it was off to ride Pooh once before I lined up at Toontown at 9:30. Jason took both the kids on the Mad Tea Cups before meeting me. We had a great chat with a Cast Member who was from the Birmingham area. She retired and moved to Orlando so she and her husband could work for Disney! That’s my dream!!

We patiently walked back to meet the Fairies. We were first in line!! We met Fawn, Tinker Bell and Terrance. They were so funny! They were carrying on about how many acorns they could fit in their mouths. I got the whole thing on tape and will definitely be sharing it later this month!

After the Fairies we had to wait on Jason and Jacob. They were second in line to meet Mickey! (If you are first in line, Mickey will give you a tour of his house!) Jason talked me into riding the Barnstormer with Emily. I had ridden it the last trip and it scared me. But since I already conquered my fear of Dumbo and Aladdin, I decided it was definitely worth a try. And I’ll be darned if I didn’t love it. We rode it 4 times in a row! (1 minute waits each time!)

This is a trip report from our 2nd trip on May 25th, 2010.

Day 4 – morning

Since we had such a late evening (didn’t get to bed until midnight!), we didn’t set the wake up call and decided to sleep in. We were up at 7:23 am. We just don’t sleep late in the mornings! That is why Rope Drop works so great for us.

We got up and took our time getting ready and had a nice breakfast in cafeteria. We then went out to wait on the bus. We waited and waited and waited and finally said “the heck with this, we are going to try driving.” So we went back to the room to get the keys to the truck and headed to Animal Kingdom. And i’ll be darned if we didn’t beat the people we waited with for the bus!

The parking was a breeze. There is a cast member to direct you to your row and another one to direct you to your spot. The tram came right to the row we were loading and you are guaranteed a seat on the tram (they dont allow standing). So within 5 minutes of parking, we were in the parks! Woo hoo!

We went to Dinoland and let the kids ride Triceratop Spin. Then we played in the Boneyard for over an hour! The Boneyard is so nice and cool! They have 4 cast members walking around to make sure the kids aren’t getting into any danger. It’s so great!

We finally drug Jacob out of there and we met Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore. The line was about 20 minutes! But it was because the characters take a break every 10 minutes. The kids were very patient and it wasn’t really that bad.

After that we ate at Flame Tree Barbeque. I think that will likely be our last meal there. We really aren’t big barbeque eaters and it’s outside and birds peck your feet while you eat trying to get your crumbs. LOL! We definitely perfer Pizzafari.

This is a trip report from May 24th, 2010.

We spent the morning at Epcot. There was a little hiccup with the buses and we ended up not getting to Epcot until 8:50 am. That does happen occasionally but hopefully that was the only time this trip. I sent Jason ahead of us to Fastpass Soarin and Test Track (note: neither me nor Jacob were interested in riding so he used 2 park tickets at each location.)

We waited for Daisy for about 10 minutes. She is one of the hardest characters to meet! She isn’t everywhere like the Fab Five. Then we went to meet Stitch. Unfortunately he had to go make a phone call before it was our turn, but I had the best time talking to the Cast Member. He was from a town about 45 minutes from me! But Stitch returned after about 5 minutes and he and the kids had a great time together!

Then we headed over to Epcot’s Character Spot. By now it was 9:20 and the line was about 15 minutes long. Had the hiccup with the buses not happened, we would of been here sooner. But oh well. It is air conditioned waiting!

We got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald and Goofy. Then when we went to exit, Jasmine was greeting off in the corner. Jacob would not talk to her! She spent at least 5 minutes with the kids trying to get their attention! Always remember to look for the extra character when you go to leave. (Last year it was Mary Poppins!)

After this, we went to do Living with the Seas with Nemo and Friends. Jacob loved the ride! He had so much fun looking for Nemo! But unfortunately he was in a sour mood afterward and so he and I ended up browsing the gift shop while Jason and Emily saw Turtle Talk with Crush.

After this, we headed to ride Soarin. We did a child swap and Jacob and I went to get a snack from Sunshine Seasons. While Emily and Jason were riding, Jen texted me to let me know she was in the parks. She came over to have a muffin with me. (If you haven’t already, you should check out her blog Coupons and Cakes!) We had a great chat! She and her husband just celebrated their first anniversary! Woo hoo!!

This is Day 2 of our second trip to Disney World on May 23rd, 2010.

We got up at 6:15 am and got us and the kids ready for the day. Stopped by the cafeteria to eat breakfast and then boarded the buses to the Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom had evening magic hours that day, but we knew we could get in and get what we needed to get done and get out before it got too crowded.

We stood in the middle of the waiting area this time so Jacob could see the welcome show. When he saw Mickey he went crazy!! He was so excited. After it was over, we headed through the castle to Fantasyland. We rode Peter Pan and Pooh (we are on a mission to ride these both as many times as possible. They are the kids absolute favorites!) then we headed to Adventureland. We waited for about 5 minutes while Aladdin and Jasmine came out, rode Aladdin’s Magic Carpets (they will ride with guests, but you must be loading onto the ride when they come out and they just jump in an empty seat) and then it was our turn to meet them! This was our first time and Emily was so thrilled! Jacob just loves all the characters. He hugs them all.

While we were meeting them, my husband ran off to grab 2 Fastpasses to both Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I had no desire to ride either one, so they only needed 2 at each.

He made it back just as we said our goodbyes to Aladdin and Jasmine. We all got on the Magic Carpet ride and we rode it twice! Our only wait was for the ride cycle to finish and unload. It was awesome! Kids had so much fun and I am finally over my fear I have of these rides!! Yay!

We then went to ride Pirates again. It was about a 5 minute wait. They only had the left side open. We absolutely love this ride! The drop is sooooo fun.

By now it was 10:15 am, so we split up. Jason and Emily went to ride the mountains while Jacob and I headed towards Fantasyland. I think the time I wander around with him, might just be my favorite part of the trip. We stopped to see Frontier Donald and Jacob hugged him soooooo hard. Donald refused to use Jacob’s Mickey Pen and had to get a new pen from the Cast Member. HAHA! It was great!

Then we stopped by a man with a bell in Liberty Square who let Jacob ring it a few times. He got suck a kick out of this!!

This is a trip report from our second trip to Disney World.

We had a very fun morning! We got on the buses at about 7:50 am. We got to the Magic Kingdom and we were able to get to the front of the line! Boy was that exciting! They also had hula hoops and loud music playing for the kids. They were able to run around for about 15 minutes before we had to stay in our spot.

The welcome show was very cute, what we could see of it. Being at the very front puts you at a disadvantage for seeing the welcome show, but that’s quite alright. We have a few rope drops at the Magic Kingdom this week and we won’t have to be at the very front every day.

We briskly walked down main street and got to the entrance to Liberty Square and actually saw them drop the rope. It was very ordered. We got to Dumbo and we were the second set of riders! But they were still testing Dumbo when we arrived so it was almost 9:15 am by the time we got off. I actually wasn’t scared this time because I reminded myself that in 55 years, no one has fallen off Dumbo.

After Dumbo, we high tailed it to Peter Pan. Waited for about 2 minutes and got in a boat. It was as beautiful and fun as we remembered! We grabbed a Fastpass after we road and got bonus fastpasses to Mickey’s Philarmagic. (This is the only ride the bonus fastpasses are for.)

Next we went to ride Pooh. We had to wait about 2 minutes again. We also stopped to pop some bubbles on our way.

We just got our Photopass CD in the mail and I wanted to share my favorite pictures from the trip! We got over 400 useable shots! I’ve also added them all to the Fickr album that shows pictures on the right sidebar.

The 10th and final day started off kinda stressful. We had been driving to the parks and we decided to drive to the Magic Kingdom. Big mistake. It was early magic hours and even though we arrived at 7:10 am, it was 8:02 am by the time we got to the Magic Kingdom. They only had the resort monorail running and it took FOREVER. So needless to say, by the time we got to the Magic Kingdom we were rather grouchy. Then on our way to ride Peter Pan (our goal of this morning was to ride the kids favorite rides one more time), I hit a wet patch of concrete and fell and took Emily down with me. Yeah, we both cried. I cried because it was humiliating and I caused her to fall too and she cried because she always cries when she is hurt. I scraped my knee up some, but unfortunately we couldn’t slow down.

We got back to Peter Pan and waited 5 minutes to ride it. Then we dashed to Pooh (which had no line at all) and rode it twice. Then we decided to go ride the Tomorrowland Speedway. This is where the course of the morning ended up being ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. It’s amazing how things work out. We were bypassing the tea cups when Alice comes skipping up to Emily and asks if she can ride. Emily was so sweet and said “Well only if my brother Jacob can ride too.” And then my 2 little munchkins got to ride with both Alice and the White Rabbit on the Tea Cups.

Afterwards, they were taken over to the meet and greet where Jacob tried his hardest to take the White Rabbit home with him. It was too sweet! We finally pulled the two of them  apart and headed over to ride the speedway. This is a very slow loading ride and we ended up waiting 15 minutes to ride. But nothing could take the grin off our faces!

After this, we stopped by the gift shop and picked up one more souvenir then we headed to the our breakfast at Chef Mickey’s.

We were on the quick service dining plan for this trip and chose to pay out of pocket for the breakfast. When we arrived, the characters hadn’t made it to our section yet, so we had a chance to fix our plates at the buffet. Then the characters stopped by. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald. The kids were excited to see them again, but I am going to be honest. They had more time with the characters in the parks then they did at the character meal. And while the food was good, it wasn’t $98 good. We won’t be choosing to pay out of pocket here again. I’d do it again if we were on the Magic Your Way Dining plan.

Our mission at the Animal Kingdom was to meet Pocahontas. And it was soooooooo hot! We headed straight back to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the kids had fun petting the animals and then they met Pocahantas, Rafiki and Jeminy Cricket. They also enjoyed watching some of the behind the scenes videos. After a while, they began to tire and we headed back to ride the safari ride. But then we decided it was just too hot. We were so exhausted and so we ended our trip. We headed back to the hotel and packed up our stuff and let the kids play on the playground.

It was a fun and exciting trip. It was worth every dime we paid for it and it was full of so many magical experiences that we will never forget. But we were so tired. We joke that you need a vacation from your vacation when it’s over with.

Can’t wait for 2011 though!
