Our Disney Do-Overs
- Where’s Mary Poppins when you need her? We were overly optimistic and didn’t think it would rain… so we didn’t bring ponchos or umbrellas. Thankfully it was hot enough that we dried up quickly!
- The sun never bothered me anyway! We left our sunscreen and bug spray in the car because we thought it was a “nice day” and wouldn’t get too hot or too sunny.
- We’ve never what??? That’s right, we have never stayed at a Disney resort. We love the off site villas that we usually book, but we often wonder if we are missing a part of the magic.
- Fastpasses smasspasses! We haven’t been serious about fast passes yet. We are super laid back and just book something to book it, but after having been to the parks a few times and seeing what the kids now like, we know we need to take this task more seriously.
- Mickey’s not the only one who brings the kitchen sink! We have a habit of over packing, just in case (except umbrellas and ponchos, apparently). Then, it takes FOREVER to get through the bag check and we end up standing in line (because remember, we didn’t book fast passes for the right things), with a ton of heavy bags when we leave our stroller at stroller park.
- So many cobblestones left untraveled. We have so much yet to explore at The Magic Kingdom. We have been to Disney at least 10 times in the last 7 years (probably more, I’ve lost count, we just know that all 3 of our kids have been there more times than they are old). And, we have so many things that we haven’t done or seen yet! We HAVE to fix this.
- Being a people pleaser. We are so into wanting everyone to have a good time that at times we end up losing out. Twice, we’ve been with friends who end up sick (e.g., heat rash, fever, stomach bug) and we spend most of the day caring for them until they decide they are going to leave and by that time, we have missed many attractions or the lines are super long. We’re all about helping, but let’s face it, these tickets are expensive for a whole family to miss out. Not to mention, to ruin the magic for the kiddos. From now on, if it happens, we need to escort them back to the room and get them all set up and then head back to the park (no worries, they travel as a family of 4 so there is definitely another adult to help ;).
Our Disney Done Right!
- It’s a very special time… Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. I have no words. The most magical thing we could have done at Disney. Nothing compares to standing on mainstreet “eating the snow” and singing Christmas carols. We book our trips around this.
- Honey, I dropped the kids! Off at Lilo and Stitch’s Playhouse that is. Boy was that the best decision ever. We were able to enjoy a night at Disney Springs like back in the old days and eat without interruption. Best yet, the kids had a blast. Win-Win!
- You whine, we wine! We happened upon the Food and Wine festival at Epcot and had a blast. The kids did too (even though they weren’t sure at first). And we all got to see Boys II Men in concert. It was special since it was my first concert as a kid and now my kids saw the same group for their first concert and we did it together. We make this a family tradition now.
- Charged up! My husband bought 3 battery packs so that we never ran out of juice for our phones. Best idea ever!
- If you fail to plan… it just might make it a fun and relaxing trip! So we missed some good fast passes like we said above. But we’ll get there, the kids are young. So far, it has probably worked better that we just go with the flow.
- Breakfast in Bed! We have saved so much money buying breakfast food from the grocery store and eating it in the room, so we can splurge on other meals and snacks at the parks.
(Thanks Chanelle!)
