Most people don’t realize that just removing the lint built up on the lint trap isn’t the proper way to clean it. Over time, whether you use fabric softener in the washing machine, or if you use the sheets in the dryer, a film will form on your lint trap. In turn, this can cause a fire if it’s not properly taken care of. Take a look at this picture:
Do you see how the water is building up on the surface of the lint trap? That’s because there’s that film of fabric softener on there. All you have to do is take your lint trap and run it under hot water until it runs straight through without building up on the surface like the picture above. But make sure you let it dry completely before sticking it back in your dryer and running a load of clothes.
