Discovery Island in the Animal Kingdom is located in the center of the park and is home to the Tree of Life. From Discovery Island, you can access all of the lands in Animal Kingdom – Africa, Asia, Dinoland and Camp Minnie-Mickey.
The Tree of Life is 145 feet tall, 50 feet wide and features over 300 animals carved onto the trunk and roots of the tree. Take a moment to explore Discovery Island and see how many animals you can spot!
Discovery Island Trails weave through Discovery Island and bring you up close to the Tree of Life. These trails also feature observation stations for a variety of wildlife that calls these trails home. You’ll spot Storks, Kangaroos, Porcupines, Flamingos and many other exotic animals.
Located within the trunk of the Tree of Life is the 3D film attraction It’s Tough To Be A Bug. As you enter into the Tree of Life, you are shrunk down to be the size of a bug. Your guide, Flik from A Bug’s Life, takes it upon himself to teach you what life is like as a bug. But look out! Hopper the grasshopper arrives and isn’t too happy that Flik brought humans into the bug world. It all works out in the end, but I would not take children that are scared of bugs to this show.

We love walking the nearly hidden trails around the tree of life. They are so uncrowded and peaceful.
