Walt Disney designed Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland after the city he where he was raised, Marceline, Missouri. He wanted a way for guests to step back in time to either to their childhood or their grandparents’ childhood.
Walt Disney said, “For those of us who remember the carefree time it recreates, Main Street will bring back happy memories. For younger visitors, it is an adventure in turning back the calendar to the days of their grandfather’s youth.”
Main St. U.S.A. starts with a Railroad station overhead as you enter the gates, as all Disneyland parks do, except Tokyo Disneyland. Once through, you have City Hall- which is the Guest Relations center on your right and the Fire station on your left. The fire station is where Walt Disney built an apartment for himself to keep a closer eye on the park.
Then the street narrows with different shops and restaurants- you may notice names in the windows of these buildings, this is how credit was given to many of the creators of Disneyland were given tribute. Lastly, it opens up at the other end with the hub and Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Kristin, did you see the diamond birthday tribute on Live with Kelly and Michael? The best was Julie Andrews talking about her day at disney with Walt has her guide. She mentions his apartment, and how all the guests were so happy to see him. It was awesome.

Walt Disney had to be one of the most brilliant men in history. He was so talented with his animation ideas. He was ahead of his time really. His imagination was limitless. He was all about family which is something we could use more of these days.

Walt Disney really had a great vision! I am happy, that he passed down his legacy to all of us! What a nice story! Most of us I think had good memories from our Chilhood and once in a while like to go back in time. I sure do.
