Ya’ll! Can you believe my last fund post was in August? I can’t either. It seems so long ago! What have you been up to? For the first part of my internet absence, I was on vacation. For the second, I was recovering from vacation. It took a full week of recovery because we were hit hard on the blues front. We were two blues deep: the Post Disney Blues and the Post Vacation Blues.
The Post Disney Blues is that feeling of deflation after the thing you have planned, perfected, and plotted for months finally comes to an end. For me, it hits the second the Magical Express drops me off at MCO. My husband and I were navigating carry-ons and pre-schoolers when a grumpy airline employee almost bowled over my four year old. Then a perfectly fine airline counter person handled our seating assignment in a manner that was just fine…but that’s all it was. Fine. And my husband sighs, and goes “Guess we’re really not at Disney anymore.” Tell me about it, buddy. Leaving that magic behind takes a toll.
The Post Vacation Blues is a little different. It takes a far more physical toll. You get home from vacation and you have a ton of laundry. There is no food in your house. You need to re-establish bedtimes. Getting back into a home routine can be more challenging than you would think. I tried to go grocery shopping and I was like a babe in the woods. My husband slept through his alarm two days in a row. The first day back at pre-school, my four year old goes, “This is not vacation.” Don’t I know it, sister.
But the crux of the matter is with vacation over, it’s back to saving for the next one! Talk about your quick turn around. But I was still plagued by the Post Vacation blues. I tried to cut a coupon and ended up cutting it in half. Somehow I managed to print three of the same expired coupon instead of the one current one. Not only was saving post vacation a struggle, we didn’t save anything on vacation. Who does? But, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. So as I looked at my fund records, I was thankful for that gym membership that auto-deposited into the fund while we were enjoying the magic. Not least of all because it was the motivation I needed to look towards the future. Onward, to savings!
Total Goal: $3500
Last Week: $2366.26
Total Deposit: $40, from the free gym membership
Still Need: $2326.26
