You know what a little bit stinks about writing for a blog? Is that feeling when you were wrong about something, and you feel really humbled and then you have to share it with the thousands of people who read about you being a dumb dumb. Man, that stinks.
Ok, so ya’ll remember a few weeks ago I was moaning and groaning about how we were only spending the teeniest, tiniest portion of our tax return on our Disney vacation? I dropped a little snippet in there about how some of the funds were going towards practical household items for our new house. I was pushing for all the upgrades on our Disney vacation and Mr. B was all, “No no, we must use this money responsibly and invest it in our home” and I was like, “DESSERT PARTEEEEEE!” Mr.B assured me that while this was the less glamorous route, it would pay off in the long run, as many of these improvements would save us money because they were upgrading our home and helping it run more efficiently.
Listen, all that may be true, but who can focus on improved efficiency when you have visions of Cheshire Tails dancing in your head?
There was nothing for it. Mr. B was getting his sensible improvements and all I got was this lousy blog post where I got to talk about how adulting is way less fun than treating yourself to all the Disney extras.
Until today.
Because today, I received something in the mail. That something was a $75 check. I opened it and didn’t recognize the issuer, so I immediately thought it was a scam. What is this mysterious thing? Sherlock KB was on the case. I started with a text.
ME: Hey, we got this weird looking check. Scam?
MR. B: No scam. Legit check.
ME: Lies.
MR. B: Nope, truths. That’s our rebate for upgrading our thermostat to a more green, efficient system.
ME: What do I do with it?
MR. B: Put it in the Disney Fund, of course. ;) And then thank your husband for making improvements to the house that also contribute to our vacation.
ME: Ok, man, we get it. No one likes a bragger.
MR. B: Maybe you could even write a blog about it.
I cracked the case. My investigation skills are really at their prime.
So yes, after all my belly aching about the home improvements and my skepticism that they would pay off in the long run, one of them is already paying off. Literally. To thank him for all he does, I allowed Mr. B to add one pro-tip to this blog. It was the least I could do.
Mr. B’s Pro-tip: If you have home upgrades on the docket, I would definitely check to see if the changes come with cash rebates or other perks.
Total Goal: $3500
Last Week: $275.38
Total Deposit: $75, from thermostat rebate
Still Need: $200.38
Ya’ll, next week is my ONE YEAR savings update and would you look at that? We are only $200 away from our goal and we still have three months to save!
Are you good about making your home improvements work for you in the form of rewards or rebates? Tell me your success stories in the comments!
