And the good times just keep on rolling.
You thought I was on a grocery shopping high last week? Friends, that was nothing compared to this week. You should have seen me. I was gliding through the aisles like Ginger Rodgers, tossing things in my cart like LeBron James, and enjoying life more than a Muppet (I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found the Muppets to be embracers of life, finding the joy in the every day).
I had a prenatal appointment on Thursday that went 1) very well and 2) very quickly. I was done way before I intended, and so I thought I might run to the grocery store real quick. By myself. Let me say that again for those in the back.
I went grocery shopping by myself.
BY. MY. SELF.
What joy! What freedom! What a quick and efficient trip!
And the best part was, my freedom from indecisiveness carried over from last week. Which is evidenced by the picture of my haul. Have y’all ever seen my trips with so many carbs? No, you have not! Because we don’t eat a lot of carbs. But on this trip I wanted all the carbs. I wasn’t halfway to the bread aisle and I was imagining all the sandwiches I was going to eat this week. I got two different kinds of bread, neither was on sale, and I did not bat an eyelash.
The best part was the granola bars. Here’s what happened. My Frying Pan is VERY into granola bars at the mo, and a few different types of brands were featured for Buy 5, Save $5. I picked one relatively quickly because, remember, super decisive is a new pregnancy power I have acquired, when I started thinking about Special K bars. I used to keep a box of Special K bars in my desk when I was teaching. They were the perfect between period pick me ups. All of a sudden, I had to have Special K bars. I looked. I could not find Special K Bars. But I NEEDED them. I looked again, there they were. Not on sale, not even a little bit. Dare I say the price seemed kind of high? I dare. I’ll say it. The price seemed kind of high. But you know they were coming home with me because all I wanted in that moment was Special K bars. I would have paid my pregnant weight in gold for Special K bars at that moment.
Then, that Sugar Ray song that is kind of terrible and kind of wonderful came on, and I am not even joking y’all, I started singing and dancing along. Picture me, very pregnant, clutching a bar of Special K bars for dear life, belting out, “IIIIIIIIIII just wanna flyyyyyyy, put your arms around me baaaaaaby, IIIIII JUST WANT TO FLLLLLLYYYYYY.” Now is a good time to note that Kroger was empty during this trip. So there was no one around to watch me dance like no one was watching. It was like I had some Felix Felicis (that’s lucky potion, for you Harry Potter newbies). I could do no wrong. Everything I touched turned to gold.
As I waddled to the register (yeah, I’m calling it, we’re at the waddling stage) the coolest, cutest little twenty something in all of Indiana stopped me, and was like, “I love your top. You are the cutest pregnant woman.” Reader, I almost cried. What a lovely ending to a lovely grocery trip. Even though I had very few coupons today and only took advantage of one in-store sale, it was one for the books. I laughed, I cried, I bought a new type of cheese. I hope I can re-create the magic next week when my little helpers are back on the scene.

It took me a while to adjust to Kroger when we first moved to the Midwest, but now I get why it is so popular! :)
