The last grocery trip before vacation. Is there any grocery trip more lovely? Every food stuff that goes into your cart is a reminder that in a few short days, someone else will prepare your meals. Every meal you mentally plan, every sale you peruse, is just a stepping stone on the path to vacation meals. But ah, amidst these delights lies peril! Is there any grocery trip more fraught that the last one before vacation? How much food will you actually need? What if there are leftovers that end up sitting in your fridge all week? How will you possibly enjoy yourself at Maya Grill when you know there is an avocado going bad in your fruit basket.
This has got to be a phenomenon experienced only by the partner who is in charge of the food, right? Like, Mr. B is sitting here, chillaxing all cool, talking about Dole Whips and Cheshire Tails and I am literally biting my nails trying to figure out the perfect combination of food to meals ration that will result in us both using the most food possible before vacation and having no leftovers. He’s dreaming about Turkey Legs and I’m rationing tomatoes.
Normally, I wouldn’t be so squishy about the occasional vegetable gone soft in the crisper, but I’m not completely free from the pregnancy queasies, so I’m trying to protect my future self when she comes home and looks in the fridge.
Speaking of which, planning the meals for this week was even harder than it’s been preggo style because all I want to do is lay on the couch and dream of pizza at Via Napoli. My head may be here, making Stuffed Peppers, but my heart is at Columbia Harbor House.
As has been rigorously documented, I was so sick during my first trimester that no foods brought me joy. But with the third trimester just a stone’s throw away, my stomach is finally returning to stable. My appetite is back and weirder than ever. And while it’s made for an interesting past few shopping trips, I am so pumped to unleash my full appetite on Disney World. I might just move into Ohana’s. Set me up with a never ending supply of Coriander Wings. See what I mean? I can’t even post about groceries without going off on a Disney Food tangent.
Ok, sigh, back to business. You’ll notice I bought a ton of sausage, which doesn’t necessarily line up with my, “no leftovers” theme. Pro Saving for Disney tip: when there is a staple of your diet that is well priced, grab as many as you can and stock up. I depleted most of my freezer meat stock pile during the great grocery drought of the first trimester, so it was nice to bulk up.
Ok, I’m sorry, I cannot contain myself any longer. Here is what I bought for the last week. Now I gotta go stare at pictures of D-Luxe Burger.
