Kroger wrote me a very sweet email a few days ago. This is what it said:
Dear Kristen,
We’re having our 10 for $10 sale this week. And we’re including Private Selection Ice Cream in that, just so you know.
Love Always,
Kroger
I think I’ve spoken about my pregnancy obsession with Private Selection Ice Cream, but just in case I haven’t, here is the deal. Private Selection is a store brand, which means it is made by Kroger, and so usually more cost effective than comparable name brands, like Ben & Jerry’s. I first noticed Private Selection pints during a Buy 6, Save $6 sale. Ben & Jerry’s reliably goes on sale during these Mega Events, and I was pumped about only have to pay $2.99 for some gourmet ice cream. But before I could reach into the cool case to get my grubby paws on some sweet treats, I noticed the Private Selection pints just to the left. They were $1.79 and included such flavors as Matcha Green Tea, Wildberry Lavender Mascarpone, and English Caramel Toffee. Talk about gourmet ice cream.
It was timely discovery. I am not normally a huge ice cream person, but at various points of this pregnancy it is the only thing I have ever wanted. I got a little grumbly a few weeks ago when the price skyrocketed to $2.70, but Kroger has made things right. I brought home a whole lotta ice cream at a crazy good price. I regret nothing.
The good times kept on rolling when I found some delicious Jeff’s Varieties Gouda on sale for more than 50% off the regular price. Good old Manager’s Special. There’s not much I haven’t already said about Gouda. Gouda is my favorite cheese, and maybe one of my favorite foods period. Today I told my husband I would like a coat of Gouda, to wear around the house, so I could feel how I feel when I eat Gouda all the time: cozy, calm, and peaceful.
Full disclosure, about halfway though writing this grocery trip report, I had to go get a piece of Gouda. This particular type has the typical tooth creaminess standard in a Gouda, with a subtle nuttiness. Brb, I gotta go get one more piece.
I’m back! My other big pregnancy craving, which Kroger has delivered on big time this summer, is plums. You guys, how have I been sleeping on plums? Plums are amazing. They’re refreshing, sweet, tart, juicy. The plum is the perfect fruit. Why do we not eat plums constantly? Are there foods I can make with plums? Is plum pie a thing? I just want to eat plums all the time.
With my cart loaded up with plums, ice cream, and gouda, I didn’t even mind that there were no good protein sales. I’ve got some stuff in the freezer, though, so no need to worry. The other, non-plum obsessed members of my household will be well taken care of.

I started out with a lowered budget because I went over last month, and it looks like I have continued that trend this month. However, even with all my ice cream, I was just a teeny tiny bit over budget. Closing the gap, one plum filled grocery trip at a time!
Have you had the Private Selection ice creams? What’s your favorite flavor? I’m living for the Extreme Denali Moose Tracks right now. Real talk, which cheese makes you feel some kinda way? Tell me about it in the comments!

I LOVEEEE the Von’s/Safeway brand (Primo Taglio) Danish Havarti! We get it sliced and IT IS SOOOOO GOOD! We use it to make sandwiches, eat on crackers, eat by itself, put on top of hot food for delicious melty cheese-iness, etc.!

Oh Liv, havarti is so, so good! It’s definitely in the top 5 of cheeses. ;)
