So there is one attraction most adults should skip at Walt Disney World. Neither me, my husband or my friends have had good experiences on it. Now you could be different, but then you could also really regret your decision.
Primeval Whirl in Animal Kingdom is like Mad Tea Party on steroids. You board a 4 seater car (2 seats per lap bar) and during the ride it will spin 180 degrees. There are also 2 different drops (one is 42 feet). The problem with this ride is it is extremely jerky. Combine the jerk with 360 degree rotations and your stomach, back and even the sides of your legs will be screaming at you for a while.
5 reasons why Primeval Whirl is not good for adults:
- The seats are tight – You will get very up close and friendly with your neighbor. If 2 parents are riding, I encourage each parent to sit beside a child.
- The ride spins 360 degrees – While the ride vehicle is traveling down winding tracks and even drops, it will spin 360 degrees. These spins are very brisk and hard.
- The ride spins as it approaches the unloading zone – The roughest part of the whole ride is when it spins again as it approaches the unloading. This spin is unexpected and it can jerk you pretty bad.
- Motion sickness is almost a given – If you suffer from any kind of motion sickness, this ride is not for you! Even if you never experience motion sickness, this ride could very well change that.
- It is very jerky – This is not a smooth coaster. The turns, drops and spins are very jerky. If you are holding anything it could fly right out of your hand, so don’t do that! It also jerks to a sudden stop.
Disney’s own warning side reads as follows: “For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.”
I encourage you to before you ride it, use your own judgement. You do not have to take my word for it. Stand and watch the coaster on the tracks. Decide for yourself if motion sickness, possible bruises (happened to me) or dizziness is worth the risk.
I’ve told my kids that this one is all them from now own. I’ve learned my lesson!

Thanks for the heads up! We’re going to Disney next month and I’d been looking at doing this ride. Disney often has those “warning” signs in front of rides that really pose no threat (it’s on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride, too, but I was told it was no more jerky than a bus ride).
I have back problems, so this would be way too jerky for me. When I looked at it, it just looked like the Mad Tea Party ride married the Dumbo ride. Glad I found this out before I went on it and put my back out!

An absolute NO for me!!! Beat up twice, 10 yrs apart.
Pretty much the only ride I won’t ride at WDW.
Love EVERYTHING else.

I can tell you that if there is even the slightest chance you could be pregnant, even with a negative pregnancy test Do Not Ride this. I finally got the news I was pregnant, as I was having a miscarriage after slamming into the side of this ride.

I’m so sorry! :(
Kirstin says
My whole family loves this ride!! We always do it!!!
Cindy Lambert says
My daughter and I love this ride. It’s one of our favorites. I am “fluffy” and even when we were with others I didn’t feel cramped. I’m 57.
Plutogappie says
I love this ride. Especially the 360 spins and the sharp turns.
Julie says
I don’t think the ride is the issue. It’s those individuals that have motion sickness that may not need to ride, and if that’s the case, the majority of the rides at Disney can cause ill effects. My family loves this ride and we range in ages from 17 to 45! We always ride it multiple times.

This one gets such a bad wrap! We love it! Personally, I hate the teacups. The spinning gives me a headache. I ride them once for the sake of riding because they are a Disney classic. But we rode Primeval 10 times!
Partyof6 says
I won’t ride this ever again for all of those reasons!!! I can’t do the teacups either! My kids always promise not to spin them but then they do! Blah! Fun but I prefer to not vomit on vacation! LOL!
Susan says
I’m old as dirt and I love this ride!
Tabitha says
Aw! This is our favorite! We rode it at least 10 times! I like it more than the teacups. The spinning on the teacups gives me a headache. Primeval Whirl spins less than the teacups and it’s tons of fun!

I also have motion sickness (have to skip Star Tours and Mission Space) and I don’t have any trouble on this ride! My husband and whole family love it! It’s a must do at least once every trip!
Partyof6 says
I recently started getting motion sickness on those too. Star Tours & Mission Space which is too bad because my kids love them. I’ve tried everything but miserable after i ride them. I was looking for a panic button last time I tried Mission Space& they talked me into the orange!
LOL!
jenny says
have you tried sea bands? Works for me!
Tara says
I probably will never go on this again. I hate how jerky it is. And I almost lost my magic band while on it the last time.

I was at Disney in 2015 and after watching this ride I decided not to ride it with my then 4 year old. Looks like I made a good decision on that. We went and seen the Nemo show instead.
angela armbrecht says
I stay off it for all these same reasons! My poor husband bites the bullet to ride with the kids because both my boys like it.
Me says
I suffer from motion sickness and I am fine on this ride. It is one of the better rides at Disney. I wouldn’t skip it! It has the same warning sign as many other rides.
Andrea says
I have to disagree with you on this one. It is one of my favorite rides and we always do it more than once.
Tabitha says
Us too!
