Hey friends! It’s Crystal, and I am back to share with you some fun family movie night inspiration.
Family movie nights are a regular occurrence in our home. A couple of times a month, I pick a movie and theme, and run with it. For this particular movie night, I chose Sleeping Beauty. I am ashamed to admit that I had never watched Sleeping Beauty until I decided to do this family movie night. I have seen every other Disney princess movie, but this one had never crossed my path. I knew that I needed to rectify that, and I am so glad I did! I will say that this movie is now one of my top three favorites. It is such a sweet movie, and I love the fairies, especially Merriweather!
Normally when we have a family movie night, I shoo the kids off and I surprise them with the movie, the menu and the décor. However, this time, I wanted them in on the action.
We are a homeschooling family, like Kristin, and some days don’t go as planned. We had a rough day with math the other day, so I wanted to find a fun way to incorporate math without opening a text book. I scoured Pinterest, and found these plans for a blanket fort made of PVC pipe. We were able to discuss 90 and 45 degree angles; we added and multiplied our measurements and decided how many pipes we would need. It was awesome working with the kids on this little project, and it made them so much more excited about the family movie night.
Since it was “Sleeping” Beauty, I went with a breakfast-for-dinner menu. I pulled out our china, and some of our fancy serving dishes. It definitely made more work for me in the end, but I felt like it went with the theme, and it was a lesson on how to handle fragile items with care.
On the menu:
Southwest Potatoes
Kale Chips
Fruit Salad
And for dessert:
Obviously, this menu is not your typical breakfast/party food, but it was delicious, and the kids were begging to have these items again…yes, even the kale chips ;-) We all loved the movie, and got all sorts of snuggles in on the couch after we ate.
I hope this will inspire you to take the time to plan a family movie night with your kiddos. You don’t have to go all out. Just ordering a pizza, and popping some popcorn would be perfect. You will never regret taking time out just to hang with the fam!!
