Disney World controls many things, but they can’t control mother nature. Here are 8 things you need to know about rain at Walt Disney World.
1. Outdoor attractions will close in the event of lightning. Sometimes the skies might even appear clear, but if there is lightning in the area they will close the ride for safety.
2. Outdoor attractions close in the event of rain. Check out this list of Walt Disney World Attractions Closed In The Rain.
3. If it does start to rain, stay out of the stores and restaurants. That is where everyone will congregate. Instead put on your poncho and keep on going! Rain makes for some of the least crowded time in the parks.
4. Jump into the covered queue for one of your favorite attractions and enjoy a short wait since most people are standing in a store or restaurant. Here are a few good choices when it starts to rain:
- Hall of Presidents in Magic Kingdom
- Country Bear Jamboree in Magic Kingdom
- Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom
- it’s a small world in Magic Kingdom
- Mickey’s Philharmagic in Magic Kingdom
- Living with the Land in Epcot
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends in Epcot
- Turtle Talk with Crush in Epcot
- Canada: Far and Wide in Epcot
- Impressions de France in Epcot
- Reflections of China in Epcot
- Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Hollywood Studios
- Muppet Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios
- Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom
- Festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom
- Finding Nemo in Animal Kingdom
5. Head to Kilimanjaro Safaris if there is rain in the area. Many of the animals love rain and will run and play when it starts to fall. If the ride isn’t operating, wait in the covered queue until they let you board.
6. Pick up ponchos from the dollar store and bring them with you. You can wear it as long as you need to and then toss it in the trash instead of dealing with a wet poncho for the rest of the day.
7. Avoid water transportation in the rain. The boats will not run on the lake if there is lightning in the area. Don’t spend your time waiting in their queue. Opt for a bus or the Monorail instead.
8. Don’t leave the park due to rain! Everyone else will flee from the rain making it one of the best times to be in the park. Attractions will have some of the shortest wait times they have seen all day and you’ll be amazed at just how much you are able to accomplish.
