Hello, Couponing to Disney readers! I’m Carrie, and I visit you here each week to answer some Frequently Asked Questions about Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, and other Disney travel experiences. If you have been keeping up with the FAQs here, you know that I’ve been writing about each resort. I’ve worked my way through the Deluxe and Moderates. Before we move to the Value Resort category, I’m going to share some tips with you for your first visit to Walt Disney World. There is so much to think about, plan, and get excited about!
For my first visit, what is the ideal length of time to spend at Walt Disney World? The average Disney vacation stay is 6 nights. This allows you plenty of park time, as well as a day to rest and enjoy your resort.
What is the average cost for a family of 4 to go to Walt Disney World? Wow! That is a great question, and of course will vary by your family. For example, my family budgets $3500 for the 5 of us, as we like to stay in the Deluxe Resorts. For the average family for 5 nights with Basic Dining and base tickets to the parks is about $2800 with no airfare or transportation. With so many factors to consider, it’s easy to get the Disney package that meets your needs and your budget!
Should I drive to the parks or use Disney transportation? I highly suggest using the Disney motorcoach transportation or monorail. These run smoothly, are convenient, and relaxing. It’s a good idea to try it for the first day or two, and if you feel like driving your own vehicle is better, than feel free to do so. Parking is free at the Disney Parks for resort guests.
What are the advantages to staying on site versus an off site hotel a few miles away from Disney? Staying on site outweighs off site in a lot of ways. At Disney, time is money. The Extra Magic Hours, transportation, and making your FastPass selections 60 days in advance are huge time savers when you are at Disney. You can even stay at a Value Resort often times for the same or less than staying at an off site hotel. The saving of time alone is worth staying on site. Plus, you have those fun Disney touches at your resort you aren’t going to get anywhere else.
How many days should I plan in the Disney parks? Since the average Disney trip is 6 nights, that gives you seven days while in Orlando. Four days is great to plan for the parks. That gives you time on your arrival day or evening to enjoy a fun dinner and the pool at your resort, a down day in the middle to relax, and then departure day. For a first timer, it’s always a good idea to plan a down day to enjoy the resort, pool, and Downtown Disney.
