10 days until Disney! We finally can start watching the weather forecast. It’s going to be hot, hot, hot! We have already bought hand held fans and water misting fans at Walmart. We also will be breaking everyday from 12:30 – 5 pm. (Family will nap during this time and I will spend about 2 hours working.) Anyone else have tips for me on how to tolerate the heat?
I didn’t have time today to do much related to planning our trip. So tomorrow I have a lot of work to do plus I have to work on details for the trip. It’s all good. :)
Oh and I got to see the first draft of the site redesign tonight and OH MY GOODNESS. You guys are going to flip out! It’s amazing! I can not wait to share it with all of you.
i’ve used the water misting fans during the summer at music festivals and they can’t be beat….
also, of course drink plenty of water…
AND walmart has 32 oz powerades on rollback for 78 cents.
I found a tear pad of coupons at Rouses (a MS gulfcoast and LA grocery chain) on a powerade display that was buy 10 32oz bottles of powerade, get 5 bottles free! amazing coupon. they were cheaper at walmart, so i worked the deal there… of course i got the powerade zero…i figure you need hydration and electrolytes, but not the sugar…
anyway, i guess be on the lookout for these tearpads at other powerade displays at other stores…….hope I can go back and grab another one!
Take an umbrella, it makes standing out for the parades in the hot hot hot Florida sun a little more bearable. I have done it several times and it doesn’t seem to bother anyone around me.
Last week we took froze water bottles and one ready to drink. We asked for ice after we filled up our emptied bottles out of the water fountains and used crystal light to flavor it. I also froze carpi suns for my daughter.
It was hot and sunny! We also found a shady spot for the parades and brakes.
PS, Also go in that Coke Ice Station at Epcot to sample coke flavors from around the world. It is COLD in there with tons to sample (as much as you want, you walk around and fill up your little cups as many times as you want) and full of dry ice & it’s like an igloo so it’s SO COLD. It ‘s wonderful in the heat. The kids would love that, too.
Ever tried Beverly? hhhhmmmmm!!!
My boys think that Fanta is the BEST!!!
They are NOT allowed to drink soda so they LOVE going to the COKE STORE while at EPCOT………
EPCOT ~ Every Parent Comes Out Tired…..
When it gets too hot, from Downtown Disney take the boat ride to Port Orleans/French quarter resort. If you’ve never been there, once you get off the boat, just follow the ramp and go past the pool and go to the shop area. They have
Beignet that taste JUST LIKE the ones you get in New Orleans and they are not expensive at all. We stayed at this resort a couple of years ago and had them everyday. You don’t have to be staying at the resort to go eat there. You kids will love it, I promise. Then, you can take the boat ride back (very scenic). There is also a huge Lego store at Downtown disney where the kids can play with legos for free. Everyone loves the boat ride and it’s very peaceful.
Check out AAA…a friend mentioned if you are a member you may be able to get free water or something while in the park…not sure what the deal is but there is a deal…or at least there was last year..
On our last trip to disney I packed my son the light weight dry clothing that they sell at target. I believe that it is made by Champion. He wears this for soccer and will not wear anything else during the summer. My husband is also a big fan as well. They carry shorts, pants, and tops and are fairly unexpensive. I bought some for my son this weekend for only $5.99 a piece.
Was going to ask how the blog was coming……..whoo hooo almost time to leave for WDW! Yeah! :) Be safe and use lots of sunscreen!!
I am so excited for the new design! I can’t wait!
Another Central Florida girl chiming in just to reiterate the frozen water bottle idea. We wrap ours in a hand towel to collect the condensation – then when it gets really hot, my son has cool water to drink AND a nice cool, damp towel to put on his forehead. Can’t wait to hear how your trip goes! Be safe!
You’ve put some really good tips out there. Thanks…living in FL, we do theme parks quite often under the FL Residents Yearly passes. We have them to Sea World & Busch Gardens as well. So, we can put to use some of your ideas there as well.
Its probably already in your plan but wear a light colored hat!
If you freez the water bottles and wrp them in alluminum foil they will melt slower and should still have some ice left at the end of the day… Central Florida girl here born and raised… the biggest thing with the heat is you just learn to deal with it, lol however it has been a bit cooler this year and not rainy much yet… also my Toys r us had instant ice packs (elmo designs) for $.50 for a 2 pack on clearance so if you found them keep them in your bag and when things get too hot you just break the liquid capsule inside and it cools instantly (also great for a first aid kit!)
also if you are wearing tennis shoes then bring extra socks (damp sweaty socks just make you hotter!) My favorite for theme parks are my fit flops (they support like tennis shoes without the heat of being closed up!) and water socks are good for the kids they are more comfy than water shoes but prevent the HEAT from the ground burnig little feet in the splash areas… we have clip on fans for our stroller bought from onestepahead.com and bring extra batteries and a screwdriver if the battery compartments have screws!
If I think of anything else to add I’ll let you know, and even having been to all the FL themeparks every summer for my whole life I still want to arrive at opening and leave when the park closes with no leaving in between…
That afternoon break is a great idea! One day, we’ll have to go to Disney as well. The baby’s just too little now. Have fun!
Floridian chiming in, not much to suggest on keeping cool that you already haven’t done. It sounds like you are well prepared and it is nice that you have 11 days so taking those long breaks are good. Most people only have a few days in disney and can’t take long breaks without feeling like they won’t get their money’s worth during their trip.
The weather has been hot, but cooled a little bit lately due to rain. We haven’t really had storms, just showers here and there, lots of overcast on some days. Just load up the sunblock, remember that even in overcast, you are still exposed to UV rays and don’t worry, even with sunblock, you will still get a tan!
We did the same thing with the water. We froze the water and allowed it to melt throughout the day. We also wrapped it in towels and the towel also double as a cooling pad for our faces.
Washcloths for around your neck you can always use water fountains to cool them down again!
Water to drink you don’t want to get dehydrated!
Snacks for the kids; small trinckets to keep them busy in the lines for the rides! You could always play I Spy!
Coins to do the penny/quarter presses….an ink pen with ink for the characters to sign; (No they do NOT carry their own pens!)
Hats to shield the sun; LOTS n LOTS of Sunscreen
Oh by the way have you scheduled your fans for a meet n greet..yet?!
Thank You! Hope to see you while you are here with the MOUSE.
I hope you have a wonderful trip! Will you be doing a “trip report” at all?
I am sooooo excited to see what you have planned for the new site! I hope you have a great trip!
I can’t wait to see the new design, when will you be making the switch?
can’t wait to see the new design
Sounds like you will have a fun trip I can not wait to read more, and to see the new site. :)
Rain! At least in MK they did not close many rides when we were there, and at AK we rode the roller coaster during the rain. Another plus everyone left the park! Granted this was a normal bright day with rain, not the cloudy, thunderstorms. Only someone from Florida will understand what a bright day with rain means! LOL!
I have a red-headed girl and she can’t handle the heat, so we have to be very careful. When she gets hot she gets really bad headache and upset stomach. I found something on the web I’m going to try when we go next time (hopefully this August), WellPatch Migraine Cooling Headache Pads. It’s a soft, flexible pad with a cloth backing and a water-based gel. Plus, it’s has no medicine in it.
Have a great trip! I am really enjoying your website. Thanks for all the tips!
Good luck on your planning today! So excited to see the new design of the site.
Free ice water!!!
is it wrong that i have nothing but bitter feelings when i read your countdowns? :-P
Water…nice, frozen, water. :D We brought Nalgene bottles with us and each morning before we left our resort, we’d fill the bottles with ice cubes. It’d take a little while for it to melt but when it does, we had nice cool water to drink for at least half of the day if not longer. Another thing we brought with us was a neoprene wine cooler. They fold flat and the one we got held 2 water bottles (not Nalgene ones, just regular, plastic bottles of water.) We used those to hold our kids’ water bottles. They kind of insulated the bottle so the ice melted slower and kept the water cooler longer. You can get those at an outdoor sporting goods store.
Oh and when we went this time last yr, it rained the entire time. It wasn’t horrible, but we were bummed that there were things we couldn’t see because of the rain. We never did get to do most of Animal Kingdom because it just poured and poured and poured. :( So at least heat should be better than torrential rain, right? :p
Do you have any of those neck tube ice pack things? lol I can’t think of what they are called? Also on our last trip we found these waterbottle/fans in one with straps to wear them around your neck…we used those to spray a cool mist of water on us…it was great! and we will take them back every year now!
I never thought about leaving during the hot part, we always just ride its a small world over and over and over lol!
