This is a Classic Attraction. King Arthur Carrousel debuted in 1955, along with the Disneyland park opening. Making this a classic attraction at the park. However, the Carrousel is actually older than the year 1955.
There are 68 horses. Guests are free to choose from one of 68 hand-painted horses, each meticulously hand-carved and made out of wood. Each horse guests are riding on is a genuine antique. Or, choose a stationary chariot, for those who prefer not to go up-and-down.
Most of the horses date back more than 95 years ago. The carrousel, handcrafted by the Dentzel Carousel Company in Philadelphia, PA, was purchased by Disney from Sunnyside Amusement Park in Toronto. The latter park opened in 1922, dating the horses to this time period with the possibly of same dating back as early as 1875. Written records only date back to 1922. Making the horses older than Disneyland!
Learn facts on Jingles the Horse. Jingles was reimagined to the theming of Mary Poppins in 2008 as a dedication to Julie Andrews fifty years of contributions to Disney. Identify by the many jingles hanging down, Jewels on her front and an umbrella and Jewels on the side (the Jewels form Hidden Mickey’s). Jingles is the carrousel’s lead horse.
Walt Disney changed the original carrousel. When the carrousel was purchased from the Sunnyside Amusement park it featured deer, giraffes, horses and more animals. However, his vision was every guest riding a galloping horse. For everyone to have their King Arthur moment he added more antique horses
Much care is put into the horses. The horses are rode for hours a day by many guests, however they always look new. This is because of daily care, in fact it is one Cast Member’s job to care for the horses. They are touched up daily and yearly each horse has a refurbishment. No 2 horses are painted alike and more than 30 colors combined are used on all the horses.
Capture a photo or two. The colorful horses make the perfect photo opportunity to capture a smile, while your little one is riding. The joy on their face as they gallop and turn, while listening to classic music, is priceless.

May Close during fireworks. Do note this attraction may intermittently close during the fireworks spectacular in Disneyland park. This area can provide a unique viewpoint of the fireworks.
