Winter brings Christmas decorations to Disney World during November and December. While holiday decorations are fun to see there are some downsides for this time of year. Here are 5 reasons not to visit Disney World in the winter.
1. Holiday Crowds
Holidays bring the crowds to Disney World, around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. It is not uncommon for Magic Kingdom to reach capacity the week of and on Christmas Day.
However, late winter can be a great low crowd time to visit.
2. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a separate ticketed event and great is you are attending. However, if you do not plan on attending, those without a ticket to event will have to leave Magic Kingdom by 7pm. This will block out around 20 evenings at Magic Kingdom for non party goers in November and December.
3. Resort Rates & Airline Tickets
Holidays also means peak travel season. Therefore room rates at Disney World and airline tickets (for those who fly) will be priced higher. This applies late November through most of December.
4. Closed For Refurbishment
Each month Disney World has a list of attractions that will be closed for refurbishment. This is anything from routine maintenance to updating an attraction. Summer months are less common for Refurbishments and other peak travel seasons. Where as, late winter (January & February) are more likely for a favorite attraction to be under refurbishment.
5. Weather
While it will not be cold compared to other parts of the country, Florida temperatures do dip in the winter. If you are planning on adding water park days or spending much time at the pool, another season would be best to visit. Learn more about Weather by Month at Disney World.
