One of the best souvenirs and memories from your Disney vacation are your photos. However, there is a balance between wanting to constantly take pictures and wanting to stay in the moment. Therefore, Memory Maker is the perfect solution. It allows guests to enjoy the moment and have someone else capture pictures of it. However, do not make one of these 7 mistakes.
Purchasing Memory Maker at the Parks
Memory Maker allows guests unlimited digital downloads, this includes photos and videos, taken by Disney’s PhotoPass photographers. The cost for advanced purchase is $169.00, versus the $199.00 price tag at Disney World. Therefore, save $30 by purchasing ahead. Furthermore, purchase at east 3 days prior to your vacation since the advance purchase price takes 3 days to connect. In addition, not purchasing Memory Maker at all is a big mistake!
Forgetting To Scan Your MagicBand
After your interaction with a PhotoPass photographer in the parks or with a Character and at the end of select attractions, be sure to scan your MagicBand. This is how your photos are connected to your My Disney Experience account. PhotoPass photographers will remind guests to do so, however at the end of attractions with on-ride photos it is up to you to remember to scan.
Counting Guests in Line For Characters
Capturing an interaction with Characters from PhotoPass photographers is unique. Not only will you get the actual photo with the Character, they often capture reactions to first seeing the character and more that guests otherwise wouldn’t photograph. Do not let the number of people in line deter you from meeting a character. Instead, try to count the number of groups in line. As Character lines move quickly, with groups at a time going and not individual guests.
Stopping at 1st PhotoPass Photographer on Main St USA
The iconic photo on Main St USA at Magic Kingdom with Cinderella’s Castle in the background is a must do. However, do not get caught up in line at the first PhotoPass photographer on Main St USA. This is because there are various PhotoPass photographers on Main St USA waiting to capture your photo. Instead, continue up Main St and look for a shorter line, plus the photo will showcase Cinderella’s Castle further up the street.
Not Asking For Magic Shots
Magic Shots add an extra bit of Magic to your photo, such as Tinkerbell flying over your head and more. Not all PhotoPass photographers have this ability, however guests should still ask if they are interested. Some PhotoPass photographers will add Magic Shots without asking, but not all. Ask for a Magic Shot and you may be asked to look shocked or point at something that isn’t there, however once the Magic Shot is imposed in your photo it makes for a unique memory. Not Downloading your Photos In Time
Memory Maker allows guests unlimited digital downloads. However, there is a time limit to do so. Be sure to download your photos in a timely manner or you will be sad. Guests currently have 45 days after the date the photo was captured to download.
Not Using Memory Maker Enhancements
Once you are sifting through your PhotoPass photos, be sure to do so on a computer. This makes it easier to navigate and edit. Guests can add fun borders, embellishments such as the year and more to their photos. Also you can edit by cropping and more. This is included with the purchase of Memory Maker and many guests miss out on adding extra magic to their photos because they simply do not know about this feature.

I am trying to edit my Memory Mate photos to add borders but cannot do that on the computer. It does not give me that option. I can edit on the app, but it does not save it. It keeps kicking me out of the app. Very frustrated because I love the extra borders and stickers!

If you live in the U.K. and buy your park tickets before you travel, most sellers include Memory Maker in the price! Don’t forget to use it seeing how expensive the holiday is!!

Just got back. We didn’t have to scan to get ride photos added.

Know that if you are a military family (active duty or retired with a valid military ID), you MUST buy your Memory Maker package at the park if you want to get a military discount. You can’t purchase it online or by calling Disney if you want that discount. You also can’t buy it at Shades of Green.
If you purchase it ahead of time online, you will pay $169. If you buy it at the park and show your military ID, you will only pay $98.
