Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a park full of nature and wonder. Appropriately being dedicated on Earth Day as its opening day, April 22, 1998. There are still 9 attractions that opened with the park which guests can still enjoy today.
1. Affection Section
The Affection Section at Rafiki’s Planet Watch opened with Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Guests may still enjoy this open petting area with goats, sheep and more. Any age may enjoy.
2. Conservation Station
Another classic also found at Rafiki’s Planet Watch is the Conservation Station. Look at animal habitats, interactive exhibits and more in this fun & educational center.
3. DINOSAUR
Travel back in time, when the dinosaurs still roamed on DINOSAUR in DinoLand USA. Guests must be 40″ or taller to ride. This attraction contains an on-ride photo.
4. Festival of the Lion King
The beloved Festival of the Lion King has been gracing the stage since park opening in Africa. Watch a Broadway style show starring your favorite Disney’s Lion King characters in this lively retelling.
5. Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
Guests of all ages can walk the same paths as those guests did earth Day 1998 on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. See hippos, gorillas and exotic birds.
6. Habitat Habit!
While at Rafiki’s Planet Watch explore Habitat Habit!, an exhibit opened since day one. See cotton-top tamarin monkeys and learn about conservation.
7. It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
It’s Tough to Be a Bug is a 3D show with surprise guests, located in the parks icon – Tree of Life. Guests have the chance to become Honorary Bugs with up close views of the Tree of Life.
8. Kilimanjaro Safaris
Guests have the chance to explore a recreated African Safari while on Kilimanjaro Safaris. When the attraction opened with the park, it contained a story about Poachers and Big Red/Little Red. This story line was discontinued in 2012 for a more educational message about conservation.
9. The Boneyard
The Boneyard is the ultimate playground at Walt Disney World. For explorers age 10 and under the space includes: a dinosaur dig site, multi-level maze with covered slides, a Jeep to climb in, a shaded seating area with fans for the adults and more. Spend some time letting your little ones explore this opening day attraction.
