While Disney is a place to experience magic, at the same time Disney is also a business. One thing Disney knows well is how to market and get guests to spend more. While shopping for souvenirs, guests will find opportunities to “save”. Beware, as you actually may spend more than you intend, just to save.
Example #1 pictured above with select collectible toy figures are priced at $17.99 each + tax or just $15 each when you buy 2. Therefore, to “save” Disney is getting you to spend $30 instead of $17.99!
This same tactic is seen with Disney Ornaments, priced at $21.99-$24.99 each + tax or just $20 each when you buy 3! This is up to a $15 savings…only if you intended to buy 3 ornaments in the first place.
Want to adopt a Banshee from Disney’s Animal Kingdom? This will run you $59.99 + tax. However Disney encourages “Family Bonding” AND a chance to SAVE when you buy 2 for $99.00 + tax.
Another example of buy more and save are Pen souvenirs. They are priced at $7.99 each or buy 3 and get them for just $6.00 each. That is a $2 “savings” per pen.
Another way Disney gets you to spend more on souvenirs is with offers like the Lion King Tumbler pictured above. The price point of $10 per tumbler is not a bad deal at all, however most guests do not intend to buy this item until they see the “Bonus” sign.
This tactic was also seen at the 2019 Food & Wine Festival where guests could purchase a $10.00 Cupcake Headband with the purchase of a Food & Wine Jersey. Another example of didn’t know you needed it until you saw it! Since, when your spending $64.99 + tax, what’s another $10 for matching ears!?
Conclusion These buy more, save more deals can be a great value, only if you intended to buy more than 1 anyway. For example, the pens make great small gifts for friends and family back home and you could easily save just by buying multiples.
