Do you watch the ground for lost change when you are out and about? After reading this comment from my reader, I know I will always be looking…
In the last year, my kids have ‘found’ over $200 in change on the ground that went straight to our Disney Jar – not much in the scheme of things, but that’s money other people are dropping and we’re finding (well they are closer to the ground – they find it all). Completely free money – every penny counts!
Be sure to check out all the ways to add to your fund!
hahahaha, my baby brother is soo funny about this. He doesn’t yet understand the difference of a penny vs a dollar so he gets excitted about all of it. If there is any sort of change laying anywhere in my car or on the floor he’ll get really exictted and ask if he can have it. I recently bought him and my baby sister a penny bank- hers is a castle and his is mickey. When it gets full I take it to a local change machine and get the money put on a Disney gift card. They don’t know we are going yet but they are up to $150! no joke. I love it because I haven’t told my parents about it yet, and I don’t plan on it untill the first day of our trip. All that money is thiers as far as I am concerned. Our trip isn’t until this time next year so I’m positive they will have a good chunk of change to buy WHATEVER they want at WDW. I am cutting them off at $100 each though. The rest is going to go into a savings account for college. I know they are only 6 and 3 but it’s never too late right?
I recently started putting found money in my piggy bank and I can’t believe how much we have. My son is only 8 months so it will be a while before we take him but I enjoy finding the money along the way.
My husband lost his job and after some unemployment, he snagged a job as a night custodian at a middle school. You’d be surprised how much change is dropped – all over the school. Instead of sweeping it up and tossing it (this is what some of the employees do!) he started bringing it home.
At the end of six months he had $37.91 saved in change from the school alone!
I’m in university and since the beginning of September to almost the end of November, I had found four dollars worth of change. So awesome to find loose change at the university in hallways, the cafeteria, classrooms, washrooms, library etc. Most of these changes I’m saving for the future and going to count them when I reach my retirement.
So excited and can’t wait!
My friend’s mother walked or rode her bike to work for 25 years, and found over 9 THOUSAND dollars in change.
My daughter just cashed in $35 in change she’s saved this year.
I have a whole bunch of pennies in my drawer at work. When the baggie gets full, I bring it home and add it to the piggy.

I have been picking up change on the ground for years, people look at me like I am crazy!!! I think the gas stations are where you find the most, I have even seen people purposefully through pennies on the ground coming out and the whole time I’m thinking there nuts for throwing away money, some people just don’t see pennies as money, I don’t know why.
I love this comment today, because this morning as I was making a u-turn on the highway I noticed what looked like money on the sidewalk. So I turned into a driveway and walked over and it was $2!!! MY husband thought I was crazy, but hey it is $2 towards our Disney fund!!
Wow, this is impressive! I certainly pick up loose change (or bills) if I find it, but I can’t say I have found anywhere close to $200! I will have to keep my eyes peeled!
We get excited when we find loose change on the ground or when we have to break a dollar and get change back. It goes straight into our Disney Jar. So far over $35 dollars in less than a month!
I need Laura’s luck too!
Laura, I want your luck!
I do look for loose change on the ground when I can and pick everything up – even pennies! It all counts!
I work at a local high school, in the cafeteria, supervising the students. You cannot imagine the change I find on the floor on a daily basis! The two women I work with and I collect the money from the school year and go out for a VERY NICE lunch at the end of the year. Yum!
I have found $50 bills on the ground twice in the last 6 months.
good on you, I remember coming out of the movies one day with my husband and there right on the floor was $20.00, thank you very much, we just got the money back that we spent for the movies.
Wow! I have never found more than $1!
I have to say I usually dont find much either. But one day in at a grocery store at night, these teens were causing this big huge scene. As they left, my boyfriend and I were leaving also, and it just so happened that one of them had dropped a 20 dollar bill out of their back pocket. We gladly picked it up and put it in our disney fund. On many occasions I would have given it back to the because I seen them drop it, but not when your going to act as rudely as they did. Thank you young little children for the generous donation.
My dad used to do that all the time. I picked up the habit from him and now my kids picked up the habit from me. They’re even better at it than I am…probably because I’m usually busy keeping track of things and them! They’ve started their own Disney fund, funding part of it with “lucky money.”
We always look for loose change on the ground … my husband has instilled that in us for a long time (he has always worked outside for an electric company so he would find LOTS of loose change.)… in six months, we have saved over $150 in loose change! (We’ve started on our 2nd Disney bucket (it’s one of the souvenir popcorn buckets from Disney World) and hope to fill it before Christmas!)
Wow! That’s awesome!
My little guys does this all the time!! While his “fund” is to buy a special toy he wants.. I can say he makes a few dollars a week for sure! lol
