It has almost been one year since Addys Giving Heart started in March of 2013. For those of you who may not remember my mom and I started Addys Giving Heart in memory of my 8 year old daughter who got her angel wings on Feb 24th 2013. We take small individual boxes of toys to sick children in the hospital here in NC. Our mission is to spread kindness one box at a time and carry on the legacy of giving that was left to us by our Angel.
To date we have had the joy of delivering over 500 Boxes to surrounding hospitals. We have also had the honer of providing boxes for the 2013 Grin Kids a local charity that takes familys with chronically and terminally ill children for an all expences paid trip to Disney. Addy was a 2010 Grin Kid so we knew that she would want us to give back to this amazing charity.
We were also able to send 25 boxes to Courageous Photography to give out as part of there care packages, They take photos for families who are about to loose a loved one free of charge. We had our first annual box making party on August 10th and was a huge success we put together 100 boxes and was able to raise money for our organization through our silent auction. This year we are gearing up for our second annual Addys Giving Heart Box Making party, we are just a few short weeks away it will be on March 8th.
We have been so blessed at the outpouring of love and donations that we have received. When Kristin first ran our story we were blown away by the response of all her readers, just a few weeks after the story ran we received a box of toys from a 9 year old little girl who’s mom had seen our story and told her about it and she wanted to help. Tears ran down our faces as we read the handwritten letter from this little girl.
Our Addy has been gone for almost a year now we have had to face all the firsts and as difficult as that has been I know that she is with us and that she is so happy that we are carrying on her legacy of giving. We have done our best to turn a tragedy into something beautiful, we miss our Angel every day but it helps to know that we are doing something that she would of wanted and we see the smile on a childs face when they receive one of our boxes it fills the whole in our hearts a little bit each time.
