There are so many ways to save money. Which is a plus. But it can be hard to determine which apps are for you, and which apps won’t fit your needs. Which is a bummer.
One of the questions often fielded in the SavEars is, “What do you guys think of _____ app?” Or, its popular cousin, “What are your favorite apps for earning?” In the spirit of filling our savings lives with more pluses and less bummers, we’re digging deep and investigating the most popular earning sites and apps.
The App Spotlight series reviews new (or new to us) apps that have proven to 1) earn money and 2) not be a scam. How do we know? Every app reviewed in the App Spotlight has been tested and verified by multiple members of Couponing to Disney. We try it out first, and then report back to you.
This week’s app is….
What is it?: A mobile app that lets you earn money by completing simple, fun interactive games, quizzes and videos.
Advertisers want your attention. Brands that advertise on Dabbl value your time and opinion. Instead of annoying you with interruptive advertising, you can log on to Dabble, watch a short ad from various brands, answer one or two questions, and be compensated for your time and opinion. You can check the app on your own schedule, and only interact with the brands that interest you. Dabbl pays you for the amount of attention you choose to give advertisers.
The ads featured on Dabbl are designed to allow you to quickly give valuable feedback to brands, and are presented in a fun, accessible, user friendly format. Using your touch screen phone, you can earn money by interacting with short activities (watching a video, answering a few questions) that give you a voice in product feedback.
One you sign up for Dabbl, participation is a breeze, as easy as checking your Instagram. You open the app, select the brand content you want to interact with, and click on it. The ad directs the user what to do, be it watch a video or answer questions, and lets you know when you’ve completed the task, as well as how much you earned for it. A breeze, I tell you!
So about those earnings. This is a very user friendly, easy earning app, that accepts all demographics. As such, they’re not paying you in gold. But they are paying you! You can earn between 1 and 10 cents an ad. The amount you can earn will vary from ad to ad, and ad availability will vary week to week. I check mine everyday, because Dabbl is great at adding new experiences. The earnings aren’t huge, but for the amount of time and energy required, it’s a pretty good deal.
Friends, Dabbl is my jam. You know I have a ton of opinions about everything, from canned tomatoes to athletic shoes, so it is nice to be able to give my opinion on a variety of topics with just a few taps of the screen. Also, for those of you on the go, or who don’t have a lot of time to read teeny print on your phone, Dabbl is great because they use a lot of visuals and emoticons, which adds to the fun element.
The brands that advertise with Dabbl are varied. I’ve recently given feedback on M&Ms, Groupon, and Old El Paso, to name a few. I even did a Dabbl, about Dabbl, which was super meta. All of the brands I have seen on Dabbl are legit, and many of the products are things I would use in my daily life, which makes it easy to give feedback.
Who is it for?: Anyone with a mobile phone.
Seriously, even if you don’t care about saving money at all, you’re just a person who likes to play on your phone, Dabbl is for you. The ads are incredibly short, and the questions are either opinion based multiple choice (“You like tomatoes on a) sandwiches b) pasta c) salad ”) or visual this or that’s (a picture of a sliced tomato with cheese OR a picture of tomato salsa). It feels more like a game than a survey site, and who doesn’t like getting paid for games?
To use Dabbl, you must be at least 13 years of age and provide a valid US based mobile phone number. This is great news for parents of responsible teens who want to help with the saving for your next Disney trip. Get them on Dabbl! They’re going to be on their phones anyway! Might as well make a few bucks while they’re there. :)
Where do I use it?: On your mobile phone. The Dabbl app is free and available for download in the App Store and Google Play for Android.
When do I use it?: Whenever you want. One of the perks of Dabbl is that you interact with the app on your own time and for as long as you want. It’s perfect for my fellow mamas waiting in the pickup lane at school, on your commute, or even in line at the drive through.
Ads are changed with frequency, so check back daily for more earning opportunities.
Why do I use it?: To earn gift cards to contribute to your Disney Fund or whatever dream you are saving towards.
As you earn money from interacting with brands, your earnings are tracked and displayed at the top of the main Dabbl Feed. Earnings may be cashed in each time you reach $5. Once you reach the $5 threshold, you’ll be prompted by the app to choose one of the gift cards offered. While most of the gift cards cash out at $5, a few cash out at $10. If you want to ignore the first $5 prompting and continue saving until you reach $10, that is an available option. Current gift card offerings include Disney, Target, and Walmart, among others.
All gift cards are digital and delivered quickly to your email. My first cash out was delivered within 24 hours. Once the gift cards are delivered to you, they no expiration date and should be treated as cash. A first and last name, as well as your email address, are required for digital gift card delivery. Dabbl states that they will not share your information with any 3rd parties.
Very few earnings apps offer Disney gift cards as an option, so this is a great option for those of you saving for your next Disney trip.
Final Verdict: Highly Recommended. While this isn’t the highest paying app, it is incredibly simple, efficient, and dare I say it, kinda fun. The ability to interact on your timetable and with the brands you are interested in is a unique feature among earnings apps, and contributes to the feeling of playing a game, rather than working. From time to time, there are start up bonuses, so use Kristin’s referral and you may start off ahead of the game!
