My oldest is going into Kindergarten (cue sobs) and of all the stress that I have felt as a mama, entering school stress is the realest stress.
She’s stressed because it’s a new environment. I’m stressed because it’s new environment AND because she’s stressed. She’s stressed because I’m stressed. It’s the Circle of Streeeeeeeesssss, and it rules us allllll.
Now, our school has these (pricey) kits you can buy with all the supplies they need, which is great if you are a busy parent who does’t want to hunt down cheap deals on dry erase markers. But guess what? I got nothing but time, baby. I’m not paying full price for school supplies. I can’t control if the other kids in Kindergarten are nice to her, but I can control how much I pay for purple glue sticks.
Only problem? School supply lists aren’t released for another two weeks. What are there people thinking? Don’t they know we posted this awesome Staples deal that ends today? (If you can’t make it into a Staples today, no worries. They’ll have other sales in July and August where prices could potentially go over lower.) Don’t they know I’m not trying to line up with my entire town at our one store, doing a Hunger Games over who gets the last pack of two white erasers?
Lucky for me, I got a buddy on the inside and got a hold of the supply list from last year. It might not be 100% accurate, but I bet it’s pretty close. My plan is to hit all the sales that pop up from now until school starts (August 1st for us) and buy only what is a great deal from each sale. That will hopefully put me in a good position until the official list comes out.
I hopped over to Staples last night right before they closed to see what there is to see. If you can get to a Staples near you, there’s some stuff worth running over for. If you can’t, again, no worries. There will likely be another sale soon. Now, you might be like, “Kristen B, why do you tempt me with this? I can’t get to Staples before this sale is over! It is torture! ” I would never do anything to hurt you, Internet! Promise. I really just wanted to show what the going “sale” rate was for items and the going “retail” rate, before you head into back to school shopping of your own.
Here’s my haul.
It may be small, but this was like, half the black market supply list. Oh, so one funny thing. You’ll notice that there are 6 boxes of crayons but only 4 are accounted for on the receipt. For whatever reason, 2 boxes didn’t get rung up properly. I called Staples to let them know and ask if I should come back and the Manager very kindly told me to not worry about it and enjoy the rest of my summer. I wonder if she could hear the stress in my voice…

I have to say, getting a jump of supply gathering haas helped soothe my frazzled nerves a bit. Kinda makes me anxious for the next back to school sale. Which store do you think it will be??
What are your best Back to School tips? What’s the best prices you’ve seen on basic supplies? And can anyone tell me what an Art Box is?? Please. My sanity depends on it.
