There are quite a few changes coming to Animal Kingdom. In 2011, Disney announced that an Avatar based land coming to the Animal Kingdom and we are finally starting to see changes that appear to be making way for that to become a reality! Disney originally stated that construction would begin in 2013 and now it appears that most of these changes are centered around Camp Minnie Mickey. They have projected the Avatar land to open in 2016.
Festival of the Lion King will be relocated to Africa just behind the Tusker House restaurant. When you visit Africa, you can now see the brown construction walls along the bridge and the area to the left of Tusker House. There is no announcement yet indicating down time for Festival of the Lion King, but if you plan to visit Walt Disney World in 2013, be sure to check to see that the show is still in operation.
Mickey and Minnie have moved from Camp Minnie Mickey to their new home at Adventurers Outpost on Discovery Island.
Camp Minnie Mickey now features meet and greets with Donald Duck, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Baloo, King Louie and Pocahontas. Rumor is that Winnie the Pooh and Tigger will be relocated to Camp Minnie Mickey from the Discovery Island Character Landing. Eeyore no longer meets with his Hundred Acre Friends and can only be found at the Crystal Palace character meal.
Daisy and Donald Duck are rumored to begin meeting together at Discovery Island Character Landing in the coming months.
