There are no sacrifices when it comes to Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World. They go all out decorating the parks, resorts and they even have a special Christmas party at the Magic Kingdom.
Christmas decorations begin to go up the day after Halloween. By Thanksgiving, the entire Walt Disney World Resort is fully decked out in reds, greens and candy canes. The decorations will remain through the first weekend in January.
While vacationing over the Christmas holiday break from school is tempting, you can actually visit the first week or two of December and see all of the decorations in the Magic Kingdom, experience all of the holiday festivities (including Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party that usually concludes around the 18th of December) and have some of the lowest crowds of the entire year!
Epcot’s International Festival of the Holidays starts just after Thanksgiving. The Candlelight Processional is one of the highlights of the holiday season and features celebrity narrators, a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir made up of Cast Members. The Holiday Storytellers around the World Showcase will teach both adults and children about the customs and traditions of all 11 countries.
Animal Kingdom is decorated for the holidays including a massive Christmas tree at the entrance that is adorned with animal ornaments. You can also meet Santa Mickey and Minnie at the Adventurer’s Outpost.
Christmas time at the Walt Disney World Resorts is celebrated with gingerbread displays, tall Christmas trees, wreaths, garland and other decorations. Every resort decorates for Christmas, but some do have more lavish displays. Most resorts are fully decorated by mid November.
To plan the perfect vacation to Walt Disney World during the Christmas season, visit during the first two weeks of December. You’ll have lighter crowds, the parks and resorts will be fully decorated and you can even purchase tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
