If you are planning on experiencing Christmas time at the Walt Disney World Resorts, there are some decorations you don’t need to miss! While most resorts will have a Christmas tree, wreaths and other decorations, there are a few that really go all out to celebrate the holidays. Most of the resort decorations will be up by mid- November.
Contemporary Resort
Located on the outside of the Contemporary Resort is a Mickey Mouse Christmas wreath that is approximately 4 stories high. At night, it lights up and if you are on the Monorail you will hear a gasp of surprise as you near the Contemporary station. Inside the resort you will find a huge gingerbread tree erected in front of Mary Blair’s mural almost as if it has been part of it all along. There are also Christmas trees scattered throughout that resort and a towering Christmas tree can be found by the flags in front of the resort. It is one of the biggest trees on property!
Polynesian Village Resort
The Polynesian Village Resort doesn’t go all out for Christmas, but they do add some smaller Christmas trees (compared to the huge trees at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian), garlands and wreaths and you can usually find a super cute edible display (although I think security would get you if you tried to eat it).
Grand Floridian Resort
If you only make it to one Disney Resort to view the Christmas decorations, this is where you need to head. The main focal point of the Christmas decorations is a life-sized gingerbread house. The house is prepared with real ingredients and could be eaten should Hansel and Gretel show up. You can visit the gingerbread house and order shingles from the roof and other holiday treats.
You’ll also find a gigantic Christmas Tree that is at least 3 stories tall. Look closely at the amazing ornaments. They really know how to decorate in style at the Grand Floridian.
Wilderness Lodge
The rustic and woodsy feel of the Wilderness Lodge will make you feel like you are in the Rocky Mountains instead of in the heart of Florida. In the lobby you will find a gigantic Christmas tree decorated with pine cones, wood ornaments and you might even spot a pair of antlers in the tree (look out Rudolph!). Take a breather by one of the fireplaces and enjoy watching other guests as they experience the magic of Disney.
Boardwalk Inn
During the holidays, Boardwalk Inn has a Gingerbread Cones Stand where you can purchase Christmas treats including a Gingerbread house kit. The stand is made up of over 600 gingerbread shingles and you will find numerous Hidden Mickey’s throughout the decor.
You will also find a number of Christmas trees decorated with turn of the century style ornaments, wreaths, garland and Poinsettias throughout the property.
Beach Club Resort
You will find another edible Christmas decoration at the Beach Club Resort. Every year, they construct a gingerbread carousel made from over 100 pounds of sugar and icing, 50 pounds of dark chocolate, 36 pounds of honey and 96 pounds of bread flour. The carousel really rotates and you can get a specially created gingerbread shingle.
You will also find beautiful Christmas trees, wreaths, garland and other Christmas decorations. Over at the Yacht Club, you’ll find their Christmas tree is decorated with sail boats, wooden fish and other nautical themed ornaments.
Animal Kingdom Lodge
In the lobby of Jambo House, you will find another giant Christmas tree (3-4 stories tall). This breathtaking tree is decorated with African inspired ornaments and colors. There are also smaller trees throughout the lobby, wreaths on the doors and garlands along the walkways.
At Kidani Village, you will find more Christmas trees, wreaths, garland and African inspired decorations.
Fort Wilderness
Visit the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds during the holidays and you’ll be in for a wonderful treat. Most of the campers decorate their spots with Christmas lights, blow ups and other outdoor decorations. You can also take a Holiday Sleigh Ride between 5:30 P.M to 10:30 P.M. that will cover most of the best campsites. There is also a wagon ride available.
Plan a dining reservation at Trail’s End Restaurant for just before dusk. Once you finish your meal, the campsites will be lit up and you can take your time touring all of the incredible decorations.
Other Resorts
The rest of the Walt Disney World Resorts will be decorated for Christmas with trees, wreaths, garland and other Disney inspired decorations. Every resort is worth a visit during the holiday season!
