This inspirational story is written by my amazing reader Charlotte:
I would always use a coupon here or there, but it really had little impact or meaning on my life.
My elderly parents both passed way last year within 6 months of each other. Before my Dad passed away, he transferred some stock into his kid’s names. My husband and I receive a dividend check 4 times a year. Initially we were going to roll it over for more stock, but I found it a comfort to receive the small amount of money every few months. But I began to realize that I spent it or paid off a bill and didn’t know where it went.
So…this past year, I decided to take the Couponing to Disney challenge. We love DisneyWorld and have been there for the past 4 years. I began to put the dividend money into a separate account marked “for vacation”. NOW, I know where the dividend money goes and even though my parents are gone, they contribute to our yearly Disney vacation.
Suddenly, coupons took on a new meaning. A tiny 25 cent coupon didn’t mean an item was 25 cents cheaper, it meant that it was 25 cents toward my vacation.
In the past 6 months, I have over half of my Disney vacation paid for. My husband and I are pretty set on the food items that we use in the house so I don’t like to just use a coupon for the sake of using a coupon, but I have begun to search for coupons that fit into our life food choices. When possible, I save a few cents or dollars because those little pieces of paper have become “Disney money”. Thank you Couponing to Disney for the inspiration.

What a nice story to share! I have also been using coupons for years but until I found this site last January, my couponing didn’t have a purpose. Last February I started a Disney Fund and instantly my couponing took on a whole new meaning. We had a Disney trip planned for the end of May and I was able to save $600 to use toward that trip. I started a new fund June 1st and have saved $900 so far. I’m having my own eat from your pantry challenge this month and hope to add another $250-300 this month alone.
Keep up the good work and thanks again for sharing.
That’s great!
How nice and I’m sure your parents are happy with how you’re using the money even though they aren’t here.
Great job! I love reading these stories!
